Report (old) App Bugs Here!
-
@somebodyelse seems to be working fine for me, maybe try deleting and reinstalling the app...
-
@rahul-balaggan This happens when the log in token expires. Closing the app from background processes and reopening usually allows you to log in.
-
@sniper_samurai gotcha, not sure why you are telling me but I am sure @Somebodyelse appreciates it.

There is a bug in the Android build where the text will not appear while in night view when loading a chapter. I have to switch from night view to regular view and then back to night view every time. Is this something that anyone else is experiencing?

Yes it was mentioned couple of times.
People kinda gave up on good reading experience by now, I guess.
@scio said in Text disappears after a few seconds on Android:
Yep me too. Firefox user on my android and my windows at home.
I am getting around it by using my phone only now, and taking a Screenshot of the text in the instant before it vanishes, reading it that way, and then going to the next page where the text problem surprisingly isn't acting up. Then I repeat the process on the page after that. It works out that I take a screenshot to read every second page. -
I see... That is unfortunate... Any idea if fixes are incoming? I've been using the unofficial app up to this point but that's busted at the moment.

Yeah, last I checked they had still not got the reading functionality to be reliable on Android so I have to hop between Simple and Regular mode to read stuff, as it either messes up just before an image in regular mode or when there is text in italics in simple mode.
At first I gave JNC a lot of slack and considered them teething issues but now I see them as a sign of JNC not prioritising a good customer experience for JNC subscribers.
It's so sad that all the hard work being put in to securing contracts and doing great translations is undermined by making it so difficult to actually read the releases.

So far, bugs I've noticed to be significant:
- If you are in simple mode, words in italics and such are turned into >em em<.
- If you are not in simple mode, the line before an image is removed.
(1+2 means that if there is a word in italics right before an image, you can't read that word).
Yeah that's a terrible bug combo which means neither view is reliable and there is a gap in coverage.
-
Not really a bug, but text to speech extensions don't seem to work as well as they did in app and on the website because it only works for what page is displayed on the screen (before, it would keep reading through the entire book once started).

So this is probably minor compared to everyone else's app bugs, but... On the android version (It is showing 2.0.5 so I'm assuming it is the standard, non-beta), it cuts off the line before an image unless using Simple mode (I've tried several combinations of fonts and sizes)
The beta version isn't resuming properly on my phone device and starts at the beginning while showing the %.
I'm suffering from a weird and worse version of this bug, I think, on my S9+: Whenever there's an image, the image isn't displayed and I can't keep reading, as it never loads the rest of the text. This has never happened on my iPhone SE, which I recently retired.

I had the same issue on my Oneplus 3T.
I fixed it by moving to the beta but that added some new bugs like the edge text sometimes being a few pixels off the screen (and text from previous pages showing up on the edge of the screen), when you resume it shows the cover page rather than the page you are on (unless you do something like specify the font), and not displaying your previous font choice until you select a different font and change back.
So I guess you can choose which set of bugs you would prefer...

I've recently changed my phone (from a galaxy J3 to a Xiaomi Redminote 7) and to put it simply everything is broken.
- night mode: if I activate it while reading, no problem, but if I go back to the selection menus then back to reading or the landscape format bug occure, then he text will be black on a black background
- the resume button doesn't worked at all beside showing the percentage I was at before
- lastly the text slowly shifted to the right as I progress (it also happened for picture)
The complete page(on google drive)

The beta app does that on all android devices. You shouldn't find this happening if you leave the beta, though the paragraph before an image gets removed on that version.
-
I was running the app on the latest version of iOS on my 9.7" iPad. It keeps logging me out and won't let me log back in. I know the username and password are correct because if I go to Safari, it lets me in fine.
I've had to give up on using j-novel. The iPad is the primary way I access the novels and between the issues with the login and the reading UI, I think I'm done. If I'm reading a novel, I don't want to scroll to read, I want to just tap and have it go to the next page.
-
@grumpyhermit When that happens clear the app from the recent apps(double tap home button). When you re open the app you will be able to log in.
-
@sniper_samurai I have the same issue. I've tried that before. It seems kind of random when it will work and when it won't. When I try and login, it just kind of sits on the screen for a long while and then returns.

Iphone 7 IOS 12.4.1
If you have the app set to vertical scroll and you turn the phone sideways it completely resets your reading progress. I've lost my place soo many times. -
@gaelborne That happens on page view too. Lock the orientation when using the app to prevent this.
