@bryan I agree

Late to the party but I feel for the author and in my opinion another example of why Twitter should be done away with. Anybody can make "oops" statements and normally due to limited audiences it's not that big a deal, but once it's on social media, THE SKY IS FALLING! Take Rosanne Bar, a crude vulgar person that few people could probably get along with in a personal setting, but in a professional setting an actor I still respect, for the most part, that was even getting her T.V. series redone. But along comes racist Twitter post, show's cancelled and most people abandon her.
Let's be honest because no matter how much you deny it we are all racist/nationalist to some degree but for the most part don't display it to the world. Read any Chinese light/web novel that mentions Japan and/or Korea and you'll see loads of bashing, sometimes obvious and sometimes between the lines.
What's really disappointing is how everyone jumped ship so fast. In regards to the author it's basically stating that once you've made a mistake there is no forgiveness and in regards to the work it's akin to the analogy of refusing to eat vegetables because manure was used on the field they grew in even though they've been deemed safe for consumption.
I really hope the series can pull through this but with how cowardly and petty humanity is in general I don't have high hopes.

@rahul-balaggan
Well that's a damn shame.
I really liked the series and was hoping to see it fully translated.
Maybe if enough people buy it they'll consider not permanently dropping it.
Hopefully it gets picked back up by J-novel or if they don't then someone else... -
Sam, please secretly continue the translation up to volume 18, and once this is sorted out release all 15 volumes at once! prays I need more!
-
Well that's extremely disappointing news that the series won't be continuing for now. Good thing i didn't waste my money buying the new one, because i'm not going to spend money on a series that won't be continuing.
Please bring it back soon...
-
They said it's suspended...but I think it's very unlikely it will be picked up again in the future when it's popularity would have waned. I don't even think the author is going to finish the series.
-
I'm thinking they will bring it back in one month after the author had time to think about what he did as a pr thing
-
man im reading the manga now and it gets so much better.... the action was coming in the next volume and an elf heroine! NOOO!
From the way he acted in the manga it seems he despises ppl who commit war crimes, so all the allegations for him being for them seems moot seeing Renya's personality. -

I looked ahead art wise with the LN once the "halting" of the series was announced
Volume 5 (art insert spoiler):
I would have liked to have seen that and later developments in that area judging by the art inserts.
-
@terrence im going to be so sad if this LN gets panned. It's one of my favs on this site since it has a bit of everything. And the MC isn't a wimp or sterile like other MC's.
For now I'll be buying the Japanese Kindle editions to try and read it since I know a bit of Japanese ):
-
Sam is there an email we as fans can send to Hobby Japan to send our message of hoping for the series to continue?
Here's the message I personally want to send:
"Due to recent news [New Life+] was suspended and even at Jnovel we are no longer getting any future volumes translated currently. Can you please reconsider and allow Jnovel to continue translating the series up to volume 18 and beyond if the light novel is allowed to continue? Many of us at Jnovel really enjoy the series and don't believe his work reflects any racism that was shown on his old tweeter feeds. As a fan of [New Life+] Please allow us to continue enjoying Renya's adventure.
Sincerely, a fan."
I tried using their site to send it but it kept saying I had invalid in put characters.

dang it, manga ch25 was just translated and tbh unless the WN, LN AND manga were completely changed by that point (assuming its vol 4 stuff due to available online illustrations)
i havent actually started reading the LN cause got too much LN backlog to read(still ended up buyin the premiums for future reading) but been enjoying the manga so far and sad that it got "halted" at this point.
-
@motionless47 just bought the manga 1 to 5 myself and the LN 4 and 5 from the Amazon Japan kindle store. Hopefully the manga doesn't get panned

I feel like any impressions on later parts of the story like this could be helpful (maybe use the spoiler tags though). It definitely could paint the backstory in less of a bad light and give us more insight into what the author was thinking with the concept of Renya.

Oh this is just getting boring... I am so sick of this planet. Every little thing offends someone somewhere.
Pretty soon people will be executed for farting in public or some horse-poop like that.I don't give the tiniest microfiber of a crap what the guy said 3 or 4 years ago. I care even less for his opinion of the world and the people in it. I don't care for a nano-second about the offense the guy who raised all this has taken and what context he /she took in it.
To me that guy, the remarks, the writer's personal opinion and feelings, they are all just a bunch of digits somewhere on an internet browser which doesn't impact my life in the slightest.
What I do like, however, are these stories. I like the characters. I like the bluntness of their actions in that other (non-effing existent) world. And I would like to continue reading it.
This trail-by-social media bulls*** has got to stop.
Geez...

@donkie737 Usually would have agreed, but his opinions have definitely leaked into his story. The MC's past is full of coded references to Nanjing massacre. Those references imply that the MC is basically a war criminal who killed thousands of innocent people, was never tried for his crimes and then went on to an Isekai where he gets mad pussy.
I can see why people would be mad about it.

@thexblade I've got about 50 LN and it doesn't even take up a full GB of storage. There's no DRM, so making a backup copy isn't a problem. I personally keep two copies on separate devices. If I wanted to go full IT compliant, I'd toss a third copy onto the cloud.
I put the downloads on my NAS in a folder that's replicated to the cloud, then import into calibre which gives me a local copy as well. The NAS also has a local USB3/ESATA (I forget which) backup drive so there's a 4th copy. I suppose if you get technical about it there's two copies thanks to RAID5 but only one is accessible so yeah, 4 total.
Guess who used to do heaps of SMB disaster recovery & find they were switching tapes but they weren't actually writing to them etc
/end tangent

@bryan @Motionless47 After the suspension announcement I have quickly read ahead a bit the WN, and the story is quite different from the manga. Unless the LN was changed compared the WN, the manga is going in another direction. But I'm fairly sure the LN is the same, for example one difference that comes out in volume 3 already is that Frau didn't travel with them to the Elf continent. Another is the part when they explore the house, in the LN/WN only Renya and Shion go check it out; in the manga, however, Rona is with them and the manga story starts changing from there.
On another note, they have started translating again the WN since the LN has been suspended. Chapter 83 has been released earlier, though I don't know which point that is in the LN. I think it should be around the end of volume 4 or the start of volume 5?
-
@terabyte the author himself mentioned that change in vol. 3's afterword iirc. And usually the manga adaptations follow the LN version, so if you find that many differences then the WN was heavily edited for the official release.

No, my point was that the manga is already different compared to the recently translated volume 3 of the LN.
In the LN the ones going to the Elf kingdom are Renya, Frau, Rona, and Shion. In the manga instead the ones going are Renya, Giriel (the angel), Rona, and Shion. Another difference is that in the LN Rona can speak the elf language since she's been there before, but in the manga she has no clue of what is going on. The whole scene already changes because of the different members in the group. Not to mention that Renya in the LN simply decides he wants to go visit the elf kingdom and discovers rice and miso, while in the manga it is Giriel that tells him about it and then Renya decides to go there because of it.
