What This Is?
White Album 2, a story that spans time from Highschool to college to adulthood. It starts with the focus on a trio of highschoolers who come together to form a band for a school festival. They have less than a month to learn their songs, two of them being a self-learned singer and a noob guitarist (our male protagonist). Their relationships progress over the course of these highschool days, and their experiences continue to impact their lives into college and adulthood. The further you get, the more cast get introduced, and the romantic scenario opens up.
Does This Have An Anime?
Yes, it has an anime. The anime only covers the first arc, the highschool years, so there's almost 2/3 of story left to tell. More than half of the cast don't even appear in the anime.
How Much Story Does The Light Novel Cover?
Well, we know it covers past the anime because the college age character designs and new cast feature in the 4th volume (there are a total of 6 volumes).

It's a Love Triangle. I don't think we have a single Love Triangle yet (we have some with 3 or more competitors, and mostly light-hearted stuff, not drama)? This has been referred to by many as one of the most harrowing representations of life based decision making in a Visual Novel. I'm reading through the VN for Closing Chapter (spoilers)...
Why Might JNC Want To Avoid It?
It's a Novelization. I don't know that Novelizations are what readers want, often times more wordy but lesser / more inaccurate versions of other media. In this case, the Novelization is probably less wordy than the Visual Novel it is based on (my playthrough of the VN is going to be well over 100 hours for all the parts I think).
White Album 2 has a choice system that I don't believe will be represented well in the light novel. Ideally, we'd get the Visual Novel from someone, but I'll take any English representation of the story I can get.
Publisher?
GA Bunko / SB Creative. Ryou's Work Is Never Done from Bookwalker set the precedent that this pub could license digital only.

If this is based on a VN and we do not have VN in English (if we do then I guess the next part can be ignored) I think this might be something for sol press. They can get the VN and LN.
-
I really liked the anime and want to know how it really ended.

I think I mentioned they should get the VN on one of their social medias, but they don't really have any suggestion box afaik. Yeah, I think Sol Press would be ideal.
I'm playing through the VN with a translation guide. I did it the legit way, so it's on original hardware with a purchased copy, I'm just reading the lines off a separate device. Not ideal of course.

I am curious how an anime would deal with picking who he ends up with. Visual Novel gives you more agency over the ending (I haven't gotten far enough to see how this is handled).
I actually asked Cross Inf about how White Album handled it's endings in the light novels:
The White Album 2 novels have about ten pages dedicated to each character. With Obsessions of an Otome Gamer, there will be a volume each! https://twitter.com/CrossInfWorld/status/895994602171187200?s=17

I didn't know the anime had only partly adapted the story.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge about this. -
@shrike_al same. Really enjoyed the anime, and to think it wasn't the full story.
-
@seltzermx yeah, it had a bitter sweet ending.
-
@hyferzftw honestly surprised they even tied it to white album 1 with the name. 1 sucked IMO. Only reason I saw 2 was the preview mentioning it was pretty much a clean break character/story-wise.
-
@seltzermx lol I read comments saying it wasn't related to 1. Which is why I watched it and really enjoyed it. I am a fan of the love triangle and how it can break friendships.
-
@hyferzftw Yeah, this triangle was so well done. Now I'm really sad they didn't adapt the rest of it.
-
Are we ready to destroy friendships guys?
If so, here's the question for those who finished the anime: What shipping team are you on? Who would you choose if you were in Haruki's shoes?

Yeah. =[
If you do have an interest in the story (and don't mind that it isn't animated), the translated script for White Album 2 Closing Chapter is up online. I actually bought a legit copy of the game for Vita (region free) and am reading the script aloud from a separate device as I go.

I agree with what everyone else said. I really enjoyed the anime (and asked Sentai Filmworks to license and release it in their survey). I had no idea there was more to the story. I really wanted to know what happened to them at the end of the anime. You got my upvote!
