Just noticed that Mari Okada's Autobiography was announced.
      Bungeishunjū, huh?
I got a list of Bungeishunjū novels that I wanna read~
Well, for the possibility of JNC being willing to deal with them again, let's throw this list~

      Kuuchuu Buranko

I loved the anime so much.
It was episodic series based around a weird psychiatrist called Ichirou Irabu dealing with different patients.

The anime is based on one of 3 books which make up the short stories series, "Psychiatrist Irabu Series".
In the Pool (Was released by Stone Bridge Press but it's out of the print now)

      Moon and Crab
      A Naoki Prize winner piece

      Synopsis
The town of Kamakura in early summer provides the backdrop for this powerfully told novel focusing on ten-year-old Shin'ichi.
Two years earlier, after his father's business failed, Shin'ichi moved into his paternal grandfather's solitary home here in this historic town nestled between hills and sea.
The father died of cancer a year later, and so now the boy lives with his grandfather, Shozo, and mother, Sumie. Bullied at school, Shin'ichi has no friends save for Haruya, a new student from western Japan who is enduring abuse and sometimes even starvation by his own parents. A third classmate is Narumi, whose mother, a university researcher, had been aboard Shozo's fishing boat several years ago when it collided with a ferry in deep fog, costing Shozo his leg and the woman her life. Shin'ichi and Narumi soon make the shocking discovery that his mother and her elite businessman father are secretly seeing each other. The two children and Haruya become engrossed in a ritual of their own invention which involves making a wish while burning a hermit crab out of its shell with a cigarette lighter.
Although at first they wish for one another's pain to go away, a rift develops as Haruya and Narumi's closeness sparks jealousy in Shin'ichi, who also has feelings for the girl.
Here is a moving portrait of a young boy's passion toward his mother and his friends, and of his struggle to stand up to the difficulties buffeting him.

      Fusé Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden

The novel which Fuse: Teppou Musume no Torimonochou is based on

Both novel and film are an adaptation of Kyokutei Bakin's Nansō Satomi Hakkenden tho.

      Movie Synopsis
In Kyokutei Bakin's classic Japanese epic novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden, eight samurai serve the Satomi clan during Japan's tumultuous Sengoku (Warring States) era. The Edo-era samurai are the reincarnations of the spirits that Princess Fuse mothered with a dog named Yatsufusa. In Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden, the female hunter Hamaji comes to her brother in order to hunt Fuse. Thus, the karmic cycle of retribution that began long ago with the Satomi family begins anew.

@myskaros I'm glad that YP is licensing it, even though I wanted JNC to pick it up. Oh well!

Hopefully more novels get announced soon. And by the looks of it, the first volume of "Do You Like Your Mom?" probably won't be out until either Late 2018 or Early 2019...

Yay yay. I felt like that one was up Yen's alley. Well, now I won't look into reading the JP version I got. x)

Wonder if there'll be any chance they get that 40 year old dude Isekai one that I also grabbed a volume of someday?

That and Zoa Hunter are the top two I'd want licensed that I believe are both Kadokawa.

I’ll be frank, I want Spirit Migration light novel series. The WN was being translated before, but the whole WN series on that syosetu site was taken down, so kind of impossible to have Novel Updates translate it. I would place an image here, but having some computer problems for a while.

Anyone know what Cross Inf World is teasing?

“Guess what? Guess what? Turns out I’m the main character of an upcoming #lightnovel! Me, a shapeshifting wolfboy! Oh, look, meat! Meat! Meat!”

“Wolfie, did you escape from Master Oswald to play an April Fool’s Day joke on these people? We aren’t supposed to be announced for another month and I am quite certain you are not the main character… Unless…did Master Oswald finally rid himself of Lady Nichika?”

                Edit:

Overlap is running a 5th Anniversary sale on Bookwalker JP.

                https://bookwalker.jp/ex/feature/overlap5th-bw/

I have some expiring coins to spend, so I'll use them on these I think. Just try to find ones I don't think will make it over.

                  Assassins Pride
                  alt text

                  Novel Updates Synopsis:
As an aristocrat, Merida Angel studied at an academy that developed mana users but she did not have any mana. Kufa Vanpiel was dispatched to be her tutor and at the same time he was ordered to assassinate the girl if she did not have any talent. “Do you want to try to entrust your life to me?” he asked, as not an assassin nor a tutor but as someone that was betting on his pride as an assassin tutor, to show the girl’s worth to the world.

This seems like an interesting series that I could get behind.

What do you think about this idea? J-Club can post a page with a long list of light novels. People can make donations through the title they want; all donations go to obtaining licenses and paying for additional translators. J-Club will prioritize licensing titles that attract a significant amount of donations. By seeing which titles attract the most money, people can have a better guess on which titles J-Club will license.

I just wanted to say it isn’t always money that will hold back a license.

There are times when an author will actually say no to having their work get licensed, because they have certain reservations.

And JNC still has no ties with many publishers like Kadokawa and Alpha Polis so even if though the money is there the connection is not.

Best way is to keep supporting JNC as it grows bigger and bigger and when those hold out publishes can’t say no, they won’t.

The owner of JNC also has publicly stated the Patreon method of money raising is not durable for a business, and if we see what series are popular that means other companies will as well, if other companies get that data for free they can swoop in and license it before JNC has a chance.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

                        This won't happen until the Galaxy goes through a full rotation though. ={

I absolutely would not want a Patreon model. A Kickstarter for some super niche thing (like drama CDs or print run) I wouldn't mind, though again, doesn't seem like they are too keen on that at this time though (I know Sam kind of said he wouldn't want to sell something that is a book bonus on its own, like some of those OVAs and Drama CDs).

@terrence Maybe not that long. Let's see if there's a sales bump from Demon.Lord, Ragnarok and Arifureta. Depends of if JNC gets mentioned in the episode reviews.

After Mommy Isekai getting licensed, this may be another one to watch from Kadokawa.

It's about a girl who puts all her skill points or training into defense because she hates getting hurt. A manga was announced recently (if I read the news article I saw on my Twitter feed right). And the light novel is now at 3 volumes (Mommy Isekai had 4 released before that localization announcement). I guess the only thing going against it is it doesn't have the instant "meme / trending" potential of a Mommy Isekai, Elf Pizza, or Vending Machine.

This novel has a voice-acted trailer too from back in January.

Honestly, I've heard nothing about elf pizza, and only very occasionally a "wtf tensei vending machine" comment. They get some initial buzz because of the absurdity, otherwise nothing. Isekai Mom has both Pochi-Goya going for it in addition to the age-old morbid curiosity surrounding taboo romantic pairings.

Meme "Potential". They aren't out yet in English, so we'll see if they live up to it. I have seen all of them mentioned in jokes on social media in the past, though Pizza Elf definitely the runt of the ridiculous litter.

I feel like Vending Machine is going to get a lot of play and word of mouth when it releases this month, but we'll see. I feel like that'd be a fun one to put on a library shelf. Before it was licensed, Vending Machine had a post that blew up about it, 929 retweets, 1.2 thousand likes. O.o

@terrence lately, I’ve been seeing more manga adaptations of light novel series that have been published months or pretty much a year it started, it was even recently that I came across the manga adaptation for that isekai(?) series of my class was summoned to another world, except for me.

I feel like that or the Reincarnated as a Sword would be good candidates, yeah. Just depends on how raunchy the hotspring one is (Yen Press doesn't really publish any super Ecchi stuff, right?).

There's something I don't understand about Yen's "Do You Like Your Mom?".

It's their 2nd Fujimi Shobo (and 1st Fujimi Fantasia Bunko) license, so why did they go with this one and does it mean to future license from Fujimi?
Why not smth with recent anime like Gamers or Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records or a title they have the manga for like Saekano or Hitsugi no Chaika?

Is Fujimi testing the market or smth?
