Unfortunately, it's Kadokawa.
Really disappointed that LNs licensed by Kadokawa aren't up for grabs so easily. Besides Kadokawa, what other companies should we be wary of that licensed LN?
-
SoftBank
Kyoani
AlphapolisThose are publishers that have some issues with licensing or issues with licensing only the light novel adaptation or issues with licensing digital only.
Beyond that there are other publishers that JNC just hasn’t acquired any licenses from, but I can’t say whether or not they would be open to licensing like Hero Bunko
So far we got HJ Bunko, Over-Lap, and Kodansha

Justus R Stone, in one of his light novel videos, was talking about one recently that he said got scared to bring anything stateside after their initial failings. I forget which licenses / what publisher that was though. Might have been an arm of Kadokawa that we can't even expect Yen-On or Bookwalker to publish. Maybe the one that wrote Gamers!
Have any Novel Zero novels made it stateside? I should check that. Oh, that's a Kadokawa label too... T_T
Anything super raunchy is obviously out immediately too I think.

AlphapolisAh, Arigato!
I should probably start looking at getting some of these publisher's titles from Bookwalker JP.
I feel like Overlap is a pretty good get for JNC.
-
@rahul-balaggan jnc has deals with more publishers: PHP Institute (Ao Oni, Yume Nikki), and the Watafuta one.
-
Would Bookwalker links for labels help anyone? Here's PHP Institute's.
https://bookwalker.jp/company/24/
Looks like none of their works can be purchased there if you live outside Japan. =[
I saw another Ao-Oni book. Curious what that's about.
Edit: Actually, they list the Ao-Oni we got as having 4 books in a series. Curious about those.
So Kodansha is possible? I've been looking at these three.
- Looks like a Romance triangle? Release is very recent.
- Mystery lit? One volume released years back.
- Alien takes control of (male?) love interest. Very recent volume 1 release.
I'm trying to pick and choose my purchased books based on whether I think they'll come stateside. I feel like the Mother Isekai from Kadokawa should be brought over at some point, but I don't think the 30 year old Isekai will be... but I'd rather invest in the shorter series currently. Prove me wrong about 30 year Isekai Yen Press / Bookwalker! xC

AlphapolisDon't know much of the first two publishers, but I thought Alphapolis was okay when I asked about "Chihou Kishi Hans no Junan" and "Spirit Migration".
-
@kite-xx I see the previous conversation you are referring to. Thy user said that Alphapolis is not related to Kadokawa so it “shouldn’t” be a problem.
However they are still reluctant to license their novels.
All we know is that they were approached for potential licensing but they never replied.
-
@rahul-balaggan
They've licensed out some of their manga. Re:Monster to Seven Seas and Gate to Sekai Project. (Although they might become even more sour to licensing since Sekai Project has seriously dropped the ball.) At least for English. Apparently France is almost caught up with the Gate manga. It might be something LN specific too.
-
@aruseus493 I would consider licensing manga and licensing light novels to be 2 separate beasts and all we have on the light novel side is the fact that they were reached out to for licensing and then nothing.
-
@rahul-balaggan
"Sighhh." Geez, who knew licensing would have all these complications and somewhat. At this rate, I'll be out of light novels I want to mention here. And just a curious question, what of Square Enix? How are they involved in manga and light novels? -
Personally I want Isekai Mahou wa Okureteru to get official translations.
-
Hey look, it's Haru and Yume.
(Crisis Gear)
-
@terrence That's Souma, though.
-
@kite-xx they are involved in manga and many of their manga has been licensed in English.
I am not sure about light novels, I don’t think they are but if they are someone will come here see his and want to correct me.
-
I'd really like to see "Akuyaku Tensei Dakedo Doushite Kou Natta", by Sekimura Imuya. It's a really interesting story, in my opinion.
-
Awhile back I said that JNC could pick up newer LN with 3 or fewer books out since JNC translates really quickly and we would be only 1.5 - 3 months behind the Japanese releases. I still think that can happen but I was thinking and maybe JNC should either focus on older series with a lot of books or divide newer and older series 50-50. If JNC picks up a series with 20+ books then It would take about 5 years to get in the 20s (and this is assuming a slow release or something happens with the translator or just taking breaks) whereas if say Yen-On gets that 20+ series it would take nearly 7 years to get into the 20s. I would rather have JNC get the older series with a lot of volumes if it means a faster release and I get behind a bit.
some long series I would like to see translated if possible are:
Date a Live
Highschool DxD
Familiar of Zero
Mushoku Tensei
Madan no Ou to Vanadis
Campione!and just some series I would like to see here:
Only Sense Online
she professed herself the pupil of the wiseman
I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated -
@rahul-balaggan I assumed they were involved in light novels when I searched up light novels I liked and know what companies it was related to. Square Enix popped up on a site when I searched up "Classroom for Heroes" :
Still, even if it's impossible, I really, really, really want to read "Konjiki no Word Master". It's one of the reasons I got into light novels in the first place.
-
I'd love my most recent reading list to get picked up and licensed...
Wortenia Senki
Takarakuji de 40-oku Atattandakedo Isekai ni Ijuu Suru
My Beautiful Wife is a CEO. (A bit hard to read. Overly repeatitive in descriptive prose. Would need heavy editing and PR to make it readable in English.) (warning, MC is a retired OP person wanting to live a dull uneventful life... at like age 30...)
Risou no Himo Seikatsu
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu
Tales of Demons and Gods -
shinmai maou no keiyakusha
high school dxd
Dungeon Kurashi No Moto Yuusha
