abundantly illustrated LN's- is that even a thing?

I imagine there are financial/licensing hurdles to overcome - but I'd love to see a hybrid publication - a LN with LOTS of illustrations (pages from the manga?) like 20 or 30 or more. Are there any examples of a publisher actually doing this? I know this would make a title more expensive, but I imagine there's something out there that lends itself to the format
If I recall correctly - sometimes a release will have exclusive content to a particular re-seller/outlet- can JNC get a similar deal for a digital only release? (of something?)
promote it as a deluxe edition or something - I'd pay extra or use 2 premium credits
thoughts? any particular title that you'd like to see offered in this way? how much you;d you pay?

I don't know of LN with 20 or 30 illustrations, i think that like you said it would be way too expensive. But try Visual Novel, it's probably the closest thing that you can get.
Conserning the second part of your comment, about reseller only bonus, those are allready the bonus for premium epub for a some series, at least i know it's the case for Grimgar, The faraway paladin and Infinite Dendrogram, look at the topic listing premium bonus a lot of the short story were store only bonus in japan.

i believe Mitou_Shoukan:_Blood_Sign might be close/similar to what you're describing, with manga-like color pages instead of the normal full/double page illustrations on other LNs. dont remember much about this series though so cant give much info on it.

Ao Oni probably falls into 20–30 range.
First volume of has:- Cover image (dual-page sized)
- 3 color illustrations at the start (one is dual-page)
- 9 inserts
- 7 manga images (one is dual-page)
- 3 pages with character designs
- A map
- Bunch of somewhat repeatable illustrations in the middle that you can at least count as one or two more illustrations

@_08 I really liked that about Aoi Oni, thought it gave the book a unique feel. I really need to read volume 2 of that series soon.

I wonder about creating “anime deluxe editions” of various series that have a popular anime. You could add a ton of art from the anime to the story and effectively sell the same volumes again to hardcore fans and create a very appealing product for new fans. I know I’d find that a pretty appealing package and might collect a few hard copies where I already the digital volumes.

Print versions: It might be a nice market of a niche market, too small to be profitable.
I only buy digital editions now for space reasons. I already have a half a closet stuffed with books in boxes plus a bookshelf filled mostly with older software development titles.

I was thinking that a new title that JNC acquired (yet to acquire) both LN and Magna, "frankensteining" them together. I was curious about how many readers would be interested in a version like I described- or feedback on if readers thought that this may be distracting?
I imagine 'Elf Bride' could work
I'd be bothered if the character designs were slightly different between the manga and the LN's own illustrations, but otherwise I like that idea when the scene being illustrated matches between the two.

Log Horizon has around 20-30 images per volume.

Fire Girl has around 22 per volume including the cover. The artist (BUNBUN/abec) does a lot of illustrations for the series as pretty much every chapter break has a small illustration.
