Saya No Uta

Back in 2003, Urobuchi Gen (Author of Madoka, Psychopass, Phantom, and the designated novelist for Fate Zero) scripted and directed a VN title that any VN fan (even if he didn't play it) knows.
Saya No Uta
A messed-up Lovecraftian horror visual novel with a bit of sci-fi and romance that managed to showcase beauty even in its sickening dreadful world.
In 2011, it got all popular again after Madoka and in 2018, last month, it came back with a novelization and became a bestseller instantly.Publisher: Seikaisha FICTIONS
Original Franchise: NitroplusThe novelist seems to be relatively new since I couldn't find any info about him, 涼樹, but found his twitter account.
From the reviews, it seems he managed write something a little bit different from the original yet capturing the same charm of a beautiful love story in grotesque world that the original had.
Synopsis:
Fuminori Sakisaka has a traffic accident which kills his parents and leaves him heavily injured. When he has a brain surgery to save his life, his perception of the world changes: everything he sees becomes blood and guts, people's looks and voices seem like monsters, and food that normally appeals to him tastes disgusting.As he contemplates suicide in the hospital, Fuminori meets a beautiful girl among the flesh-covered walls. She introduces herself as Saya, and is apparently looking for her father. Fuminori does not want to be separated from Saya, and asks her to live with him. She agrees.
I read this VN long ago yet I still remember it, it's one of my first VNs so I would love to own the novel to it too and it's still one of my favorites.

I’m not a CN guy so I didn’t know much about this, but it looks gooooood! I suspect it’s sonething that might get a translation too, or at least my fingers are crossed for that
-
As a fan of the VN, I'll give my vote.
-
Look great, i hope we get it. As a one shot we may have a chance
-
@the-green-death
I really think it's totally up your alley, yeah~ -
@raitoiro
Since it's Seikaisha FICTIONS, it's either Sam giving it a shot and try and get the VN fans to him, or Vertical, which already got titles of similar nature, finding some value in licensing it.
The illustrator works on translation of H.P. Lovecraft by the same publisher and I really preferred if the Saya's cover was as dark.
-
@bloodygaikotsu Sam allready licence video game novelisation so we may have a chance, well i hope it's licence and for a one shot the publisher doesn’t matter that much.
Yeah the artist works look great, way better than most lovecraft cover in the west.

and they never worked out lol (Well, he picked works that ain't that big in west.)
But I like to believe that Saya is big enough that it can market itself lol -
I made an LNDB page for it: http://lndb.info/light_novel/Saya_no_Uta

@doublemangekyo
Always wondered how to do that; but Gen Urobuchi was not involved in writing itself, I think it should be better to have him under "Original work"There's another work by Gen Urobuchi, I wanna add as well but dunno how
Eisen Flügel, 2 volumes, GAGAGA, ilust. Higashiguchi Chuuou -
@bloodygaikotsu I mean, the book cover literally says:
Suzuki Ootsuki · Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus)
Original Scenario / Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus)
Original Work / Nitroplus
Illustration / Higashiguchi ChuuouAmazon credits Ootsuki and Urobuchi with the same role as well.
As for how to add stuff on LNDB, just make an account. Then you'll be able to create new content (novels/people) and modify existing entries.
-
@bloodygaikotsu Yeah, i've eard that "ao oni" sell were bad but i through "Yume Niki" did well for a one shot.
-
@raitoiro A far as I'm aware, the only one-shot that actually sells is JK Haru.
-
@doublemangekyo
From what've read around, I kinda assumed that he's more like a supervisor and he's name is attached to Nitroplus as he does the final check to see if saya-like enough or not. -
@doublemangekyo
What about Last and First Idol?
Sam just started printing, hoping he catches more Sci-Fi fanatics? -
I remember i was searching for choice base VN (or eroge to be specific) for the 1st time after inspiring from anime like the worlds god only know, oreimo etc. While searching that by mistake i downloaded this game. When i noticed i downloaded wrong game i become sooo angry.... but then decided to play it and liked it too much (except those 18+ things. But well its ok). And by this it become my 1st VN (and last also (rip search of eroge) Will try more after 6-7 months due to some reasons)
Does it novel follow same story as of VN?? And if yes then will it have multiple endings??
-
@bloodygaikotsu Yeah, that was the reason for printing Idol. It sure ain't selling as an ebook.

So, I started it while I wasn't aware it's 18+, playing it on the laptop without a headphone and my younger brother is right next to me but not facing the screen and all of sudden, a loli started moan.
Me, frantically, just shut the screen down, trying to show a "nothing suspicious going on here" look lol.
(Learned my lesson: re-located myself and got an earphone)
And I think he connected various endings into one.

@doublemangekyo
Well, I ain't complaining since I wanted this one in print more than JK. -
lovecraftian weirdness +1
