I am actually a fan of end of the world/apocalypse type stories.
I like movies like 2012, and The Day After Tomorrow, so this definitely looks like something up my alley, plus the covers look good.
-
Looks interesting. I'll give it an upvote. I've also been looking for more apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic stories since I watched NGNL 0. Hopefully it doesn't rely on leveling, stats and skills to tell a story though.
-
This has a manga adaptation as well starting.
Yeah, I definitely crave some movie monster type scenarios or post apocalypse stuff (I posted that Time From Z zombie apocalypse one before). I think this'll be on the lighter side, but you never know (School Live looked fluffy from the outside).
Even reading something fluffy like Monster Tamer Girls made me realize how few movie monster things I've seen in the manga / LN space despite Godzilla being so popular.
-
I saw on Bookwalker that this series is listed as complete now that the third volume is out.
-
@terrence Should add a Complete tag to the post then. :3
Completed series get my vote for sure when the premise is interesting enough.
-
Hmm, 3 volumes seems rather short. And it seems the WN has 153 chapters and is still ongoing, last chapter was posted 6 days ago.
I guess the LN got canceled/axed/whatever?
-
It is a bit of an apocalyptic / survival tale, and those tend to be best if they don't overstay their welcome either way. But yeah, don't know how complete it is or no.
It just got it's first manga volume in February, launching right alongside volume 3 of the LN. Light Novel author was even tweeting promotion for the manga as recently as today.

Edit: The manga got a reprint too and the author thanked the fans for their continued support in this Tweet.

There's a short video PV for the manga here.

Second volume of the manga releases July 12th.

This has also sold over 100,000 copies (don't know if they're referring to the whole series, all 3 LN included, or just the manga adaptation).

Found this a few days ago and enjoyed immensely the 100 odd translated web novel chapters. It is a mixture of elements from Pacific Rim, Gate, Grimgar, fantasy and apocalypse.
One day, for no reason, monsters start to appear in the world. Whomever kill monsters, can gain experience, jobs and skills. Electricity, internet, phones, civilisation as we know it is gone. The world is overwhelmed in matter of hours by randomly spawning monsters. The story revolves around Kazuto and his struggle to survive using his wits. From time to time, we get POV of other survivors, but most of them has a very short life expectancy.
I never felt bored while reading it, writer knows how to build suspense and keep the character on their toes. The side characters has enough depth to them to make you as a reader, root for their survival. However, the story is very cruel and gives off the feeling like you are witnessing the last days of mankind as they get eaten, mutilated and destroyed by monsters.
There is 100 odd translated web novel chapters, go read it yourself. Kazuto abusing Item Box for all its worth by squashing monsters with heavy machinery never gets old.
Spoilers for why monsters has appeared

A fourth volume of this released in September (I believe the previous volume was February 2019, so quite some time between releases). I don't know why I thought this was over, but I guess not. We'll see how much more story it has to tell.
Edit: Even looking at the reviews, it seems Bookwalker listed the series as complete with volume 3. So the manga revived it? Idk, lol.

@facelessone Um... You posted the wrong stuff. Volume 4 came out over a year ago. What's coming out December 14th is Volume 5.
-
This sounds fun. Even more so now that we know it has a continuing story.
-
I still think it's interesting that the manga resurrected this seemingly.
Like, volume 3 was definitely listed as complete at one point, and people were thinking it was discontinued.
"Bookwalker says it's finished, but is it discontinued? In the Bookwalker ebook, it ends pretty much halfway through. The mystery hasn't been solved. Does this mean that I should read the rest of the story on Narou? The story is slightly different, though."
"It's a shame that the end of the book was 'Our battle is just beginning'. I wanted to read the rest of the story."

Giving this a bump because Volume 6 is coming out March 15, 2023

The wait for more chapters on Manga UP Global is torture. Having the LN to read would help alleviate that..
