@jpwong it looks hugely aggressive to me considering they have only 1 translator and since 2020 they have only released 13 books in total.
Indeed. One guy can only do so much. Is the business even profitable?

World Teacher 2 actually released.
Sadly, the Amazon entry is messed up - see ASIN β : β B0C3Z9GN4R - it's missing volume 2 in the title and there is no cover image.
Apparently Tentai is still learning how to use PublishDrive correctly? Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
I'd hesitate to buy this yet since if they pull the entry then re-publish you'll be stuck with an orphaned version that never gets updates.
-
@HarmlessDave you should always hesitate to buy it from Amazon since Tentai also sell it DRM free on their website.

Is the volume 2 digital download really available from their store? The image in the shop still says "coming soon" and the listing is missing the version selector in other listings or any other mention of the word "digital" for the add to cart.. The buy digital section doesn't list them either.
A week later the Amazon listing is still messed up.
I wish them well, but they really need to get their act together with the "selling stuff" part of the company not just the translation part.

Yeah. It even has PublishDrive as the publisher, lol. I imagine they will have to republish everything through it for it to work right. They'll have to set up the series and what not so things are grouped together. I wonder if PublishDrive can handle this stuff for them in the beginning?

Also, there are two different versions of volume 1 on Amazon. This means people will have to purchase it again. New version has better formatting and what not, but there's an obvious mistake on the cover. The volume number isn't centered in the circle. -
Yeah, not gonna touch any of that until they sort things out.
I wonder how the new version is formatted. I'd like to see a comparison of it. The old version's format (the text font especially) was atrocious. π

Yes, DO NOT buy volume 2 from Amazon US, because if they need to fix it by re-publishing then the Amazon ID will probably change and your old version will be orphaned and never updated, just like those of us who bought volume 1 a couple of years ago.
Besides corrections, they mentioned in the Discord that they were given 50 pages of bonus material by the Japanese publisher right before volume 2 was being published, so there is supposed to be an update to add that.
-
@Terabyte You can compare the two by checking the samples on Amazon. The most obvious improvement is the bigger first-line indents. Also, it does seem that 64 pages were added to the new volume 1.

Oh, yeah. I didn't think of that. Will give it a try.
As for the extra pages, do you know if that's all new(?) bonus content like JNC's premium content? If I remember correctly the extra stories were only available in the print version, maybe the new pages are for that. π€
-
@Terabyte the contents pages are the same, so the length difference might just be formatting differences and/or corrections.
-
8 days later and this is still not fixed.

I gave up and bought it from Tentai's own shop, which worked.
If you haven't used the free Calibre app to copy books to your kindle before it's very easy to use.

Tentai has regrouped and is trying to move forward again, with a new update posted today - https://tentaibooks.com/en/project-updates-other-updates/
Hopefully this means World Teacher 3 will actually be released in Q1 2024.

Didn't they just regroup this spring? What happened between April and now? The talk about rebuilding their team leaves me thinking either a lot of their staff were either let go or left.
-
Tentai Books needs more facts and fewer words. So far they're doing exactly what Sol Press did. π€·ββοΈ

Yes, their track record for 2023 is terrible.
From the blog post it sounds like they're at least paying royalties and keeping in contact with the Japanese publishers, so better than Sol Press.
I'm not expecting anything from them at this point but I don't think they're lying about having new staff and a plan for next year.
-
Not quite dead yet... Tentai released World Teacher 3 this month, at least to Amazon.
The translation is fine and the volume ends at a good pause point so it's safe to buy even if it's another year before we get the next volume.
-
Iβd like us to shift away from the dumping on.
We do not want any company to actively go down. We look for the improvement and the effort.
It has been a long tail negative spiral in here. Letβs change up the tone and look to the future. Keep any criticism constructive.
Thank you

Sorry if that sounded too negative, it was only intended to be pragmatic with a touch of dark humor:
There's a new release, the quality is fine, and it's OK to buy it even if the delays continue.
Edit: @Rahul-Balaggan - actually it might make sense to lock this thread and start a fresh one, so new readers don't need to wade through 4 years of past delays and disasters to discuss the present state of the company.
Tentai has been a bit cursed so far, everything from an office break-in where their equipment was stolen to losing control of their discord server after a malware infection, but they've kept struggling forward despite that.
Their latest update is here: https://tentaibooks.com/blog/
