I really hope this gets sorted out soon, if Amazon Japan can sell these books there is no reason they shouldn't be sold else ware.

@Village-Idiot And Stratos volume 3, the first black and white illustration is a buck-naked loli in bed with the MC.

Alright, I don't know if anyone has seen the latest but it appears that Yen Press made a statement that it was a censorship decision by Amazon - so I am out. This really sucks because I asked for this Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and as I stated earlier, I already have hundreds of dollars of books on it.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a great e-reader for manga and LN outside of Amazon? AND, is there anyway I can transfer what I already bought for my Kindle to my new e-reader?

@White_Silver The afore-mentioned Calibre is your key, if you want your novels in a different format. What I buy here gets converted to Kindle format and sent off to Amazon for reading on all my kindles and kindle-equipped tablets/phones, and what I buy on Amazon gets backed up in epub format.

There is no reason to give up the kindle hardware, but any generic Android tablet can have both the kindle app and different epub readers. Even Apple iOS stuff!

@SomeOldGuy Kindle is preferred since it loads and turns pages images faster than other e-readers.

Just buy from Kobo, rip the drm and side load to the Kindle via Calibre.

We (the readers and JNC) also have to address the fiasco with Amazon (No Game No Life [Yen Press], How Not to Summon a Demon Lord [JNC], I Shall Survive Using Potions [JNC], Clockwork Planet [JNC], etc.). For those who don't know, Amazon unlisted these specific LN off their platform (even though hentai is still being sold through the platform [ie Fakku]). I have accounts in both Amazon and Bookwalker. Granted being a premium member gets me a book per month, but it is slightly inconvenient for me to go to another app to read the files (usually have to pull the file in my download list). I still remember Amazon having issues with Hatsune Miku merchandise a few years ago too. You would think someone from Sony went to Amazon and caused a fuss.

If companies don't want to stock any mature content that's their choice, but the lack of consistency is a little ridiculous. You don't see them rushing to ban popular western stuff like Game of Thrones that's a lot worse than the stuff being banned here.

I can only hope readers wise up and purchase premiums instead.

@yumenokage It's just unfortunate for JNC and other companies, Amazon probably makes up more than the majority of their profit. And many of the consumers probably purchased only based on the suggestions, never to have heard the series prior.
It sucks that one company can have another by the balls only for their self righteousness or whatever you want to call it.

And if that doesn't change, will just end up 'hurting' us as then series that they don't think Amazon will allow potentially won't get considered for licensing and translation.

@yumenokage I honestly think its worse than even that. I ask why is it that I cannot purchase the light novel for Grimgar from Amazon, but I can somehow still purchase the anime. Seriously this makes no frigging sense. Why is the novel so much worse apparently than the show.

@Eternal-Wanderer Different laws and moral values. They weren't a problem when originally published in Japan and Amazon.jp would probably take a massive publicity hit if they started to apply American puritanical values to Japan.

@jampodevral Isn't it the case that some (but not all) of the missing English versions are missing even from Amazon Japan? So they're already doing it. Not sure how many people there will notice if the Japanese language ones aren't affected, though.

Another thought. Japanese publishers have not been super reliant on Ebooks for sales and they get a really large percent of their buy in from brick 'n mortars. I think that it would actually hurt Jp Amazon more to have Kadokawa pull all of their products from listings if Amazon execs were stupid enough to hurt the relationship between them. If you look at the way that many Japanese investment firms and corporations spiderweb out into multiple fields and network via long standing contracts, you could end up with several thousand product sku's dissapearing in a few days time as sibling companies and allied firms pull products.

@Eternal-Wanderer The anime wouldn't have anything to do with the Kindle Content Review folks who are the ones taking down the Kindle versions. Even if this is happening because someone is purposefully doing it rather than because of an automated system (and right now, we don't know which it is), the person taking down the Kindle book likely would have no authority to do anything to the anime even if they wanted to. It would be handled by a different department. If this is because of a wider Amazon policy, then it's definitely arbitrary that the LN would be taken down but not the anime, but I'd bet that no one high enough up to push such a policy even has a clue that this is going on. It's probably either an automated system or a small number of jerks in the Kindle Content Review department that's causing the problem.

@yumenokage If they pulled some Infinite Stratos books the some of the stuff on the page you get by looking up the japanese name should absolutely not be there.
But I don't know Japanese well enough to look up individual volumes.

But they still sell fleshlights and dildos. Plus publish book series that are just barely held together plotlines revolving around written porn.

                                    Fucking hipocrites.

@Kalessin The 5 or 6 people who actaully work in that department probably don't care. The book gets X amount of flags for Y reason and the system pulls it. Yay, cancel culture.

The first volume of Grimgar is back on Amazon Kindle but the bath illustration is removed from the preview.
