New Website Feedback

Si.

We were originally hoping to make live fixes to the new website to improve things right away, but because of the weather and power issues, we will be reverting the site URLs back and working on fixes separately, then re-launching the new website at a future point in time. This change back will be happening in about 45 minutes.
- What's currently at https://old.j-novel.club (the old website) will be reverted the default site at https://j-novel.club again
- What's currently on https://j-novel.club (the newly launched website) will once again only be accessible from https://beta.j-novel.club
- "https://old.j-novel.club" will still go to the "old website," so if you've already bookmarked it, it won't break.
Thanks for all the feedback on the new website! You will still be able to access it at the above URL.

I realize, but keeping the site up puts a lot of pressure on the staff on the programmers to rush things. Rushed code is a great way to dig yourself into places that are hard to get out of. I'm simply strongly empathizing with the software people (person?).
I think as long as they don't have to add new titles or anything, keeping the old site up and running doesn't actually take a lot of programmer resources, it's probably more work for whoever has to enter the scheduling and upload the parts, but I am not under the impression IT staff does that.
@arghc said in New Website Feedback:
I thought I subscribed to notifications for the titles I was interested in, but didn't see any notification for the new Bookworm chapter set. I'd ideally like to see notifications (optionally) sent to my email, but since I currently have a few j-novel club tabs open, notifications via bell icon at the top of the screen would work too.
Since the only place with the bell icon is the forums, I don't think that can be used to tell you when new chapters come out, only when people make new posts in the topics you've subscribed to.

Best wishes to everyone in regards to the weather and power issues. Hope all goes well for them both in regards to those issues and work on the new site format. Overall I think it was great as I said in my last post but it looks like some bugs need squashed and it seems I'm not the only one with suggestions regarding the calendar lol. Good luck with everything though.
-
Not sure whose side the issue is on or if it's just a transient glitch, but the new calendar page doesn't seem to be hooking the right links to the right titles right now. For example, when trying to open the new chapter of The Magic In This Other World Is Too Far Behind! (Manga), the link being activated is for Sorcerous Stabber Orphan instead which is the title listed below it. You have to click on the title listed above the one you think you want to get the one you want. No idea how to get to the top line's correct link without navigating through the Titles section.

Good to hear! Hope you can take your time and get fixes in place before we go again. Looking forward to it.

I am consistently getting an error when I visit this page: https://beta.j-novel.club/calendar?year=2019&month=7
The JS console has this error message:
Firefox 85.0.2
-
I seem to be back in the old website for some reason.
-
-
How exactly do I get to my user id for an RSS feed? This doesn't seem to be a valid URL: https://labs.j-novel.club/feed/user/Vorthod.rss
(For that matter, I don't know how to get individual series IDs either, but that won't be a problem if I can get the user feed working) -
Some more positive feedback: I found new website really sharp and snappy. It's important for potential future users looking at the site, since I think the homepage look was much more inviting. In contrast, as an experienced user, I especially liked the new calendar because it makes it much easier to see what's coming at a glance.
Only three suggestions - probably already covered in other posts:
- Would be nice if there was a "today-only" copy of the calendar on the homepage. Otherwise, I'm going to make the calendar page itself my landing page for your site.
- The novel reader doesn't have any way to resize the text-size anymore, at least not that I could find. Trying to read tiny text on my middle-range monitor is difficult.
- Is there anywhere that announces hard-copy releases? Don't think this was on the old site either. I don't buy e-books, but I do buy hard-copy books and it's sad to have to go to a third party site and search to see what you have published.
-
I love the new site a lot more then the old one but it could need some more work in regard of navigation. I would love the following.
-
From your user page, please add a link to the novels landing page so you can easier go and buy new volumes when they show up, right now you need to click Titles and search it up, go there to see, would not hurt to see your next volume info direct on the user page to.
-
From the calendar page, Please make it possible to click on the entries to get to the novels landing page to, right now you also need to click Titles and search the novel up.
-
-
Some feedback that hopefully helps.
- Moving to the next part does not change the URL so if you refresh, you lose progress and it confuses you as well since it will jump back to whichever part you first clicked.
- There is no end of part marker and it always ends at 98%. Basically it does not tell you the part has ended and leaves a small percentage missing. Clicking the progress bar further does show it's the end but going back won't allow you to go forward again.
- There should be a way to make/help us remember which part we are. I don't read every part as they come, sometimes I pool chapters. Currently I keep track by keeping my page on the part where I last read then just refresh and see if there are new ones. Now this cannot be done since there is no sub part heading. I think there should be a way for us to keep track of where we are within the website instead of needing to keep a list outside.
- No "what's new" at a glance. I like the sidebar showing what's released and what's next. I think you should keep that somewhere or allow us to keep track of what's next . Novels you are following is a good place to start. Just keep everything in a list ... Novel name | which chapter last read | when will next part be released.
- On the novel parts. I think green and light green does not work. Light green is telling me it's interactable kinda like hovering your mouse on a button and it changing color. Might be a good idea to use gray for not yet released chapters? There is "release" under legend but that is confusing as well since it is not used. Might be a good idea to unify the colors and have 1 legend and drop the "release" part.
- No way to change font size. I think this is a major feature you need to put up there before releasing the new site. Specially since your team somehow is preventing chrome to resize the text. I tried changing chrome settings to make the font larger and it did not work.
-
Overall I like it but I do have some issues with it.
-
Where do I check to see what has been updated recently? The old site had that on the front page, which was really convenient.
-
I was reading Her Majesty's Swarm and on several chapters I couldn't turn it to the last page without using the dial at the bottom.
-
Some things that are available on the normal site and the app don't appear to be available on the beta site. Example: a bunch of the Invaders of the Rokujouma chapters.
-
One thing I really like from the app is the indicator of where you are in a chapter. It's helpful for picking up where I left off if my reading is interrupted.
-
Is there a way for dark mode to affect the entire page I'm looking at? As it is there's a dark square in the middle that I'm reading off of surrounded by white.
-
I've noticed that it says if a volume has premium extras. It might be nice to be able to see what those extras are without going to the forum and searching for the title.
Other than those, I vastly prefer the new site. It's much easier to navigate and find the chapters I want to read than on the old site.
-
-
Having the old site back has reminded me how much I prefer it.
-
Easy first page access to releases that week/day & countdown in hours & minutes to the next release (refreshable).
-
In reading mode, easy no mess changing of font size & columns with % counter through the release. In Ascendance in particular I get nervous about how much action they can pack in, but I use it on every release to gauge what they can still accomplish with the space left.

Scroll down to the page footer, there's a Theme: Dark Mode button that changes the rest of the main site (not the forums, though). Helps my eyes so much!

I've been using the beta website for awhile and really like it.
I've seen info posted already about it being in the works, but the only issue I really have is the ability to adjust font size to read. It is currently just too small for me. -
@cimmadif
I think that update is one of the items on the top of the "fix" list. It has been mentioned by many people in the forum for this to be added so as soon as the I.T. department is back up and running I think they will have that added.@myskaros said in New Website Feedback:
@Elleya If you check the first post in this topic, font options are already planned.

@TheGrimLich said in New Website Feedback:
@quirriff Due to, to quote @myskaros, "weather and power issues" (I'm assuming there was a blizzard-induced blackout or something), they're going to be fixing the new website behind the scenes and they've got the old site up front for now.
My understanding from stuff I saw elsewhere is that their main web developer lives in one of the areas with a power blackout and is looking at close to a week for getting his power back, so he can't actually get online to fix anything. So they switched the old site back in order to pre-empt any show-stopper bugs that he couldn't get online to fix right away.
-
I'd like to note that I like everything about the new website except for the reader portion. If we could get the font/size options to make the new reader look the same as the old reader, I'd be good with the new site.
