Regarding missing/modified titles from Amazon

And now it seems Amazon has removed The Great Cleric preorder for being too similar to the manga, despite them putting (Light Novel) in the title.
🤦‍♂️
-
@LegitPancake Wow really, they are just getting more and more ridicules.
-
You'd think with over 450 titles from JNC that Amazon would start treating JNC like a "real" publisher instead of an amateur self-publisher.
You'd think.
Sigh.
I get all of my JNC titles as premium editions, but it still annoys me that Amazon's shenanigans are costing sales and keeping people from discovering some good LNs.

How do you know that is why they removed it? Did they say why when they removed it from your preorder?
When they cancel things I have on preorder I just get notified it was cancelled but never told why. Thankfully everything I buy from J-Novel comes from J-Novel directly so it doesn't cause a problem.
As much as I don't like the other alternatives, they seem better than Amazon kindle store at this point.

The message we (the publisher) received is "your product provides a misleading experience to customers." They canceled the preorder within 12 hours of us attempting to update the listing to include "(Light Novel)" at the end of the title. It's hard not to see a connection.

And I did wonder if Amazon improved because lately they write (manga) or (novel) besides the title. So it needs to be added by the publisher. Atleast now the times I need to check for the cover if it is the right version are over.

You would think so, except about a couple months ago I went to order a volume of reincarnated slime.
I found it in the search clicked on it and ensured it said light novel in the description. Switched from the digital kindle version to a physical version, that switch changed the LN to the manga version.
If I hadn’t been observant and just hit add to cart I would have been pissed. I even opened a support chat with them to tell them the problem, and it still hasn’t been fixed months later.
This shows me how much Amazon actually cares about misleading information. This has nothing to do with the publishers they themselves have attached the wrong physical book to the wrong digital book and can’t be arsed to fix it.
I can only imagine what yen press is thinking “damn why aren’t we selling any physical slime volumes on Amazon, it doesn’t make any sense”.
-
@catstorm
Did you contact yen press regarding the issue? -
NGNL and High School DxD light novels and manga all appear to have been purged from Kobo. I can hope that there's some kind of mix-up but it's certainly looking like they're joining in with Amazons nonsense now too. Sigh...

Sigh I always wonder about NGNL. OK, maybe the choice to have Shiro as an 11 year old could give problems.
But damn. Hopefully an error. I had enough dissapoinments from series that get purged by platforms.

In a strange twist, the Kindle preorder for Great Cleric Vol. 1 has been restored, but please do not preorder it. This is an error on Amazon's part, and we do not have access to the listing in order to upload the final ebook.

@myskaros
I think you shouldn't just announce it in the forums. People who don't visit the forums won't know and this will cause a confusion when the release date arrives.Ignore this if you've already announced it anywhere else since I mainly just check the forums.
-
@BartzBB It was announced on Twitter like 4 days ago not to preorder it. http://twitter.com/jnovelclub/status/1354160505619886080
Though given the current kindle rank, it unfortunately seems people are preordering it anyways. It will be a shame if Amazon won't let JNC update the book, otherwise people will be paying $7 for a free 25 page preview... -
@myskaros Do you have any idea if or when Amazon will be putting the Great Cleric back on sale on their store, or are they just going continue acting like petulant children for the foreseeable future?
-
@HeroicScrotum We still have received no response or assistance from Amazon. We are attempting to create a new listing for the volume, but can't say whether that will work without issue.
-
@myskaros Thanks. I'll just upgrade to a premium account and cut the middle man out ;)
-
@HeroicScrotum - if you don't have it already, Calibre is free and will convert epub to mobi and send it to a Kindle with one click.
Attach kindle with USB; Click Add title to Calibre library button & browse to downloaded file; Click Send to Device; Click Eject Device. Done!
-
@HarmlessDave OK. Thanks. I'll peruse the interweb for Calibre. Just gotta put down the LNs and get back to my Masters Thesis first, though :D
-
@HarmlessDave I recommend azw3 files if you send them over USB to the Kindle. Last time I checked you could not use the custom font you have on a kindle with a mobi.

That's good to know. I just use the Calibre default, I haven't checked whether that's azw3 or mobi but I will next time I use it.
