Seirei Gensouki Anime Announcement

realistically Vol 4 would be the last place to end it on a decent note with simply a cutscene showing future characters (satsuki and liselotte) since starting with Vol 5 the story has run with little to no stopping point nor major time skips that could be used as one unless they stop mid volume though that would question where at as Celia's wedding would be a weird part to end as would the monster carriage attack and any later is just asking for a minimum mid Vol 11 run (post takashitsa punch)
in all i see Vol 5- vol 11 as a long continuous run better suited for its own season if ever.

i do hope that getting an anime doesn't slow down/ delay the Ln's in japan as it does sometimes happen
-
@whyohwhy1 We're still catching up to Japanese release, I think their latest volume is 17, to be released soonish.
As for the anime, I expect it to be quick paced and if they are smart, they stop at volume 4.

@Zing 17 was back in september, next one is i believe 18 on Dec 1st

Yep, and pre-orders for the ebook version finally opened up like yesterday or today.
-
I'm looking forward to this. I just hope that they do a good job with it. It's a great story that deserves to be well represented as far as an anime goes. The preview look pretty good quality wise so here's to hoping. 🤞

The issue is the slow build up of the series and how the arc system was drafted.
To me, my least favourite, in the sense of reading constantly, is the 2nd volume. My favourite of the early arcs is the 5th, silver bride, and volume 3 of the Yamato arc. Both are self enclosed enough to be read alone.Sadly, I fear for the slow build up if only a 12/13 episode season cour. Seirei needs a 24/25 to bring it up to volume 5 which is a good enough end point. This would only be possible in a 1213 single season (as expected) if the episodes are rushed through, or the second volume is rushed through with volume 4 as well.
Personally I regard, volume 1, 3 and 5 as being the true essentials of the early series. Everything else is for icing.

@custodes
I agree that 13 episodes is way to short. Unfortunately, too many new anime series are capped at 13 episodes max, with no second season ever being produced. Bad part is, most stories would start to get really good where a second season, episodes 14-26, would be. It's a conundrum, but unfortunately anime has devolved into more of a marketing tool that anything. -
@shrike_al Well, he is the harem king, after all.
-
I'm cautiously hopeful. It would do better with longer multiple seasons and proper development. Don't know if that will actually happen. I'll definitely watch it.
-
@Gamen I'm right there with you. It'll be a 12 episode run that quits before it really takes off
-
@mwbworld
It would be good if it did. But, unfortunately, most anime only get the 12-13 episodes and that is it. We are, however, seeing a resurgence in anime with 24-26 episodes or anime with multiple seasons so there is some hope, but I would not get my hopes up as this only applies to a select few anime. -

Question for those who actually read the LN, does the PV seem to capture the feeling of the LN?
-
@lily-garden hard to be 100% sure without understanding the dialogues, but the PV gave me more of a lighthearted harem romcom feeling compared to the LN.
-
@lily-garden Can't say for certain. Looked more like they were trying to spotlight all of the VA than anything else.
-
@lily-garden Mostly what Paul said; Celia and Latifa at least got a little more time in the PV which is appropriate since they're the actual heroines those first two books... OTOH all the other girls are basically side characters, one in particular only showing up in basically only one scene. They become important later so I suppose they have to pin down the cast if they expect this to go on for more than a single cour, but... it's a bit misleading.
-
I could see them adapting the story differently from how it's presented in the novels. Unlike most, Seirei is a significantly different light novel from it's web novel predecessor. I could see them reorganizing the "prologue" stories to include more or less of certain elements from the main story and side stories. I could even see some new anime original content happening.
My guess is that if it is 13 episodes we will get the "Prologue story" up until Rio leaves Miharu and the siblings at the Spirit Village. Then we will get some side story content, and maybe some original content that takes place in the modern world.
-
I could see them dumping volume 3 entirely. It has a few reveals, but those could be delivered in another manner and otherwise the book was entirely self contained.
I kinda hope this isn't going to end up a rush job like Rangarok was though.
-
@flarecde They will probably montage most of village life. I mean... the random village girls fawning over Rio would be boring to watch. I'm guessing they'll show him meeting Yuba, defending the girls/hanging with Hayato, Saving Komono and then meeting his grandparents/dueling Gouki. The manga is probably the best outline for what they will do.
