J-Novel Club's most successful series so far?
-
I'm not sure where this would go, but forgive me for indulging my curiosity.
I recently came across an old statement by Sam that Grimgar was originally the most popular series on the site until it was ignominiously dethroned by the Realist Hero.
That was quite a while ago now, have things changed since then regarding series successes? Have any other series risen to the top? Is there a correlation between existing fan translation and popularity of series?
-
My guess would be that "Arifureta", "Realist Hero" and "Grimgar" makes up the top 3. Can't say in which order though.
-
Arifureta Volume 1 is the #1 best seller for fantasy Manga, and Volume 2 is #3, and then Bluesteel is #4
I believe for a brief moment Volume 2 of Realist Hero also made the Best Sellers list on amazon as well as Vol. 2 of Isekai Smartphone.
-
Well, if we limit ourselves to amazon, then we can do an advanced search for publisher j-novel.club and order by salesrank: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_adv_b/?search-alias=stripbooks&unfiltered=1&field-keywords=&field-author=&field-title=&field-isbn=&field-publisher=J-Novel+Club&node=&field-p_n_condition-type=&p_n_feature_browse-bin=&field-age_range=&field-language=&field-dateop=During&field-datemod=&field-dateyear=&sort=salesrank&Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.x=13&Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.y=5
This should be better than best sellers, as it works across genres. Unfortunately, this will only tell us about the popularity of titles. I'm afraid only @Sam-Pinansky could tell us the aggregate values.

I just contact amazon.uk and bookdepository. They say that for Grimgar physical copy release they get limited number of books and they cover pre-order with that number. So they sold most of the stock just to cover pre-order. I was confused because I get pre-order few months back and there was 6.6.2017 but now is there september 2017 on their web. So thanks to god I should get it in time. So it looks like, there will be probably a second print. I am curious, how much copies was actually printed. Also, on US amazon is still 6.6.2017 release. They probably send just few copies to poor Europe :D (Slovakia here)

@Jaquobus it's Realist, then paladin and grimgar are real close, then arifureta is catching up rapidly.
I suspect it will be realist arifureta grimgar/paladin after dust settles.
In case you are wondering our worst seller is not my little sister can read kanji! (That's a close second ;( )

It has to be Brave Chronicle, right? :man_shrugging:
I'm really impressed though how Paladin can compete with high-exposure series like Realist and Arifureta and Grimgar. Hope Rokujouma and Daimao can make it up there once they're published. It would be a shame for either of them to be beaten by something like Smartphone (no offense to @ReadingSteiner ).
Thanks for taking the time to answer!
-
Kinda curious about Rokujouma pre-order status at the moment. How good it is?
-
I'm really glad to see Realist Hero doing so well. I didn't know anything about it going in and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice economical type Isekai tale, like a "Spice and Wolf" or "Maoyuu".
I personally fell behind on SisKan (along with some other series), so I'd need to do some serious catch up at some point if I want to get back into that one.
-
@Terrence I really like Realist LN. Characters and story are really nice. But Spice and Wolf and Maoyuu holds a special place in my heart. Really nice economical story with feelings part.
-
@NeoAnkara Let's not judge on preorders alone...
-
Need time for that word of mouth to build?

Hah. You're so pathetic, you only have one series on the bottom of the sales heap!
I'm an overachiever.

@Liz for what it's worth I follow both NeeChuu and $$$MMO and would be quite sad if either were dropped.
-
@Catscope They're my favorite series, right there with Realist Hero (up through V2 of Paying to Win and V3 of NeeChu). =(
-
I hope Neechuu eventually gets animated so it gets a sales boost, it definitely deserves more attention than its getting right now.
