@imilyaz once you get to volume 6 you'll start to notice why I said that but yeah when I said extremely talented I mean mainly the observation skills and choices to stay alive and in volume 6 someone talks about how one because talented enough to be considered "strong" not wanting to spoil it for you for volume 6 so I'll say "strong" .

And people complain when they license isekai. :) (I like both isekai and non-isekai, for the record). But their top three sellers are isekai, I hear Faraway Paladin is doing well, and more.

I think it's mostly just because isekai is really "in" right now, so because there's so many titles available it's easier to get a "miss" than it would be for other titles. Another factor is the whole "this other series I want hasn't been licensed, yet they're getting more isekai?!" perspective, which is wholly unfair to the LN licensees but people gonna think what they think :v

I'm still banging the drum for more non-Isekai. Some series without any fantasy / SciFi elements would be welcome too (though, we go down a whole new can of worms if we get too many generic Rom-Coms; hoping for Drama or Psychological stuff in addition to those).
The problem is less "going to another world", and more that there's a lot of similar Isekai out there. The harem elements blend together, as do some of the generic male main characters (sometimes I want a character who just doesn't conform to the system of the starting area, doesn't just give up his Otaku / shut-in identity to become helpful).
In your opinion guys, which setting has been the most original overall?
I'd say Grimgar's setting, since it's the least static (no kingdom to stick to) and the Monsters, while often holding characteristics of animals, are still original compared to enemies in other series that go for tried and true fantasy tropes (well, besides the Goblins and Kobolds).

What's interesting to me is that two of the three light novels don't have an anime, especially with the Arifuretta anime being delayed. In spite of how poorly Smartphone's anime was received, I'm curious if the sales of the translation got the intended sales bump.

Unfortunately, the main female lead and that character weren't that different in terms of their motivation for their actions.

I like non-isekai too. I just see a lot of really snarky comments about it like it's inherently bad or something. :) I want some non-Isekai titles. Sadly most of the ones I want are unlikely as they're Kadokawa.

Before discovering Light novels I pretty much read exclusively fantasy and sci-fi so really the current trends fit very nicely with my personal preference in terms of stories. Outside of Isekai, pure fantasy, or sci-fi I doubt I would have much interest in other types of light novels.

Going for a necro bump here.
So do we still think realist hero is number 1 or has something else taken the crown.
Personally if I were to judge just based on forum interest I would be leaning towards Bookworm.
What does everyone else think?

Bookworm has really good fan base. I dont know is it popular with all ages and genders tho. Because some series plays to popularity but AoaB doesnt have those kind a elements. But for JNC AoaB might be popular serie.

I would be surprised if Bookworm isn't the biggest seller on a per volume basis

@catstorm I believe Sam mentioned sometime last year that Arifureta surpassed Realist Hero as the best seller due to the anime. If I were to guess, I would say Bookworm has probably gotten into the top 10 top sellers, if not top 5. Realist Hero, Smartphone, and Arifureta all get into the top 1000 for Amazon kindle sellers rank when new volumes come out. Bookworm barely makes it into the top 2000 from what I've seen (still very good numbers though).

Couple of comments/questions - how is Grimgar doing in terms of sales?
Whats likely to be top 5-10 currently?
Btw Arifureta anime is crap apparently (confirmed with my own eyes and various comments on internet) - not sure how this bumps up the numbers (i love the light novels though. -
I'm still surprised Arifureta is still the top. The anime wasn't that good and I've read the novels and the story kinda trails off a bit near the later volumes. What I'm surprised is that Bookworm is so low in the rankings. Though I understand why Bakarina is high on the list. It after reading it, it's a good story but it has elements that just might be attracting that one particular demographic that doesn't usually bother with light novels.
Anyways Bookworm is good and I try to recommend it to everyone I come across. I wish it was higher in rankings.

Are you talking about the bookwalker rankings because Bookworm is in 1st and 2nd with another volume in the top 10.
How is that low?

It's a weird question to answer because you need to be really specific in asking. Lifetime total sales? Sales per volume? Sales only in the past month? Et cetera. Based on what criteria you choose, some series are going to have skewed numbers for one reason or another.
Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.
