"Chats" function to be disabled
-
We've been made aware that the chat function on the forums (in the top-right next to the Search and Notifications icons) was abused by the spam-bot accounts from a few weeks ago to send unwanted chat messages to people. Since we cannot delete those messages even after banning them and want to make the forums a comfortable place for all users and subscribers, we will be disabling the forum chat function on Monday, November 8. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please let us know if you do use this feature extensively and would prefer that it remain enabled.

I do use the chat from time to time but I guess I can live without it.
I didn't get any spam myself, but anyone who got those messages can just use the option "Leave Chat" in case. You can probably delete all those messages messing around a bit with the database table, too.
Still NodeBB lacks a lot of functionalities/options that I'd consider standard for a forum these days. Have you guys ever considered switching to another forum software? 😋

I had actually forgotten that this feature existed
-
My experience with chat is mainly accidentally clicking on the WRONG icon that looks like a magnifying glass, and then trying to figure out how to make it go away.
-
I've used it on occasion, when I decided I'd be nice and not cause a massive digression in a topic...
Something I'm far too good at, I'm afraid. But it isn't crucial.
If push comes to shove, I can check to see if various folks are on Discord; I haven't hung out on the J-Novel Discord, due to how healthy the forums are, but elsewhere on Discord? Some activity. -
Sad, I do use it in some cases but don't really mind it disabled but at least give us access to our past chat history since some translators sent me some nice tidbits there
-
I've never used it. We have the Discord so it seems fine to drop support for the chat.
-
I do use it quite a bit.
BTW, if you disable it, do I lose access to the existing messages?
Edit:
Doesn't it make @Rahul-Balaggan's work difficult?

I would prefer to keep the chat function intact. I have used it a few times and found it quite useful.
-
Would limiting opening new chats to subscribing members solve the spam bot issue?
