The ideal sponger life - volume 7?
-
@jpwong Good to hear that, but do they have a release date for next vol?
-
@André_98 The staff have unfortunately not mentioned anything further beyond the more generic it will be ready when it's ready type statement.
There's still plenty of reasons it could get delayed even if they've negotiated the actual license. There's the need for the Japanese publisher to send over the materials for them to be able to start work on the JNC side, they have to prep the English cover for the volume, the translator and the editor have to be available to work on the series, of if in the worst case, the editor or translator is being switched out, the new people have to get up to speed on the existing released material to minimize the impact when they take up the mantle.
These are all things you will typically not hear a company comment on until people and content are ready to go, so much as everyone is anxious to start reading the next volume, we can only wait at least knowing that the next volume is licensed so we will get it eventually.
-
I'm really slow on the uptake sometimes.
This is one of the titles that changed Japanese publisher to Square Enix?
If so, that explains a lot concerning delays in obtaining the license, and even afterward. -
@Weasalopes
Nope. The JP publisher for this is still Hero Bunko. -
We are just waiting for an approval and then we can start. But nearly all the delays have been on the Japan side, basically. We have never had continuing series volume licensing take even close to this long before.
-
@Sam-Pinansky I remember the "Will someone Please Explain... " series here got stuck for like 9 months once, too for some reason or another, but this might be a bit longer....
-
@jpwong Thanks for the answer.
-
@Sam-Pinansky I glad to hear that the problem is not with J-novel. Thanks and good work (when you get to start working it).
-
Good, seems translation will go on at some point.
Glad you managed to make it work.
-
I know J-Novel usually never gives updates before the first part is released, but I am grateful for the updates on this as this is one of my favorite series.
I promise never to expect things like this in the future nor ask for them, but when you do give updates I will always be grateful. I understand that people being disappointed and getting mad when unforeseen delays occur is probably one of the major reasons why you avoid giving out estimates and early updates.
-
....finally..........
-
@admin did the licensing deal go through?
-
I'm assuming "finally" means finally approval to start work since nothing's on the calendar yet (that we can see at least) lol.
-
@jpwong It is very after hours for all our staff right now, so I assume that "finally" was infused with the feeling of "I'm checking my email at weird hours and holy cow!"
-
@myskaros Yeah that's what I was thinking, not sure how much pre-work you're allowed to do on these types of things if you haven't been given the final ok yet.
-
@myskaros Gee, 9:30 PM Central is after hours? You mean you're not operating out of Hawai'i?
-
@jpwong Ya, the question is whether we now have to wait for the translator and editor to free up, or if work was done at-risk (as they call it in government contracting circles)
-
@bfennema You'll just have to see when we start releasing.
-
@admin Hopefully the wait isn't too much longer. My finger is getting really tired from spamming F5 for the last 6 months!
-
@bfennema Just keep an eye out around here on Tuesdays. Since there's no reason for them to move the previously scheduled release date if anything's going to happen it will happen then.
