I don't use the old reader, but I do click on the old site, once a month. Since that's the quickest way to access the little blurb about the month's catchups. Why is it missing from the new site??
It's there at the bottom of the homepage. Look for the title This Month's Catchup Series.
-
@terabyte I'm talking about the description that goes along with it. not just the list of series
-
@rkkn Oh, yeah, I indeed missed that. I usually give it a quick read when the news is posted in the forum since it's included in the monthly topic.

I have been a subscriber for... err... Going on 4 years now I think?! Yikes!
Err... lost my train of thought there... anyways... in all that time I've never used the web reader. Forget it exists until threads like this. Which means, of course, that I use the app religiously. I switched to the beta version of the new app ages ago - much better than the old app in every way I've found - but it IS still listed as part of the Beta program in Google Play Store. Will that change on the 14th and if so, does that mean there will be a new non-beta version of the app I need to look for and download then?
-
@xdrfiredogx You don't need to worry about anything; we can't force any users on the old app to uninstall it or anything, so what will happen is that the old app will no longer be able to load LN/manga parts. As long as you're on the new app (which is already using the new API), you won't be affected.

It technically isn't in beta anymore... It's just Google Play being stupid about updating the status.
In order to clear that "beta" status flag, you have to uninstall the app, un-register from the beta, wait several hours, and then reinstall the app.
Not exactly logical or convenient.
-
Gotcha... I mean, I certainly don't care that it's called beta on Google, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to stop getting updates because there is now a version that doesn't say beta to download instead.

Old site is so much better and easier to navigate. New reader is a mess and the new site is not as user friendly as the old one. This one is going to hurt.
-
@lighthawk96 If you'd like to write out your feedback in at least some detail, we would be happy to hear it, but "better" and "a mess" aren't helpful for actually knowing what you want to see that we could try to do.

Well one thing I really liked about the old site is thT you have the covers next to the titles. I really liked that. The new one just has like the first five and then you get a list that is so close together it's kinda hard to make sense out if it. I liked how I could scroll through and see all the releases for the week and plan out misreading schedule. It was quick and easy with the covers.The reader itself is just, weird. The script always came off in a way that was not visually pleasing, and the double page thing didn't really interest me. I do most if my reading on a tablet and thought the Kindle app, which I felt the old site mirrored, which made it a really easy to go back and forth.

@lighthawk96 Thank you!

@myskaros
No problem. -

If you're talking about the sidebar list on the main page the new site actually gives you more titles (10 on the new site vs 6 on the old site), the main difference is the old site when you press "show more" it loads more into the sidebar, on the new site it just takes you to the calendar page.
I do agree that I'm not super thrilled with how the reader on the new site works. I don't really like reading in double column mode, but the single column mode ends up just being the width of two columns which ends up being difficult to read as well. I can get the reader to display in a format that I can read comfortably by shrinking the width of the browser down (I posted an image earlier in the thread), but it would be nice if something could eventually be added into the reader as a native option to get that type of output.

@jpwong
I agree. The other problem with the new site is that the reader is not exactly cell phone friendly. I use that primarily at work, I'm not taking my tablet because it would disappear, and the reader on the new site just didn't work well at all with my cell phone. The old site's reader however worked great with my cell phone. -

@lighthawk96 Thank you!
If you are one of the people taking feedback on the reader, I have been experiencing a graphical bug in the way the reader handles manga (on desktop with both chromium and Firefox based browsers). When transitioning between pages of a manga, sometimes (it is about 50/50 for me) the animation of the new page sliding onto the screen acts up and leaves a bunch of duplicates of the trailing edge of the image. They go away after a second or two but it just doesn't look good. I have had trouble screenshot ting it because it clears up fast but not great enough but to be noticeable

Time to take one last look at the old site before saying goodbye for good.
