New J-Novel Coins are here!
-
Thanks @jpwong, I couldn’t make this point across.
I don’t have a large library on here, just 100 books over 6 years so I didn’t know that there are some series that are priced differently.
I started subbing to JNC when they first had the credit sales. So I stockpiled a lot of credits and didn’t have to spend my monthly premium credit. That amount built up over time. I kept it there as I thought I can always redeem them later. Therefore, for me personally, the switch to coin has negative impact like the post mentioned above.
Due to the Aug 2nd deadline, I already spent all my credits, however.

The premium manga is finally here! No fanfares about it so far, or have I just missed it all? I went to see Bookworm's manga release dates and was met with the info that I can now buy premium manga. This is what we've been waiting for.
Time to resubscribe as a premium member so I can accumulate coins to collect the manga series finally, now that I can buy it DRM free.
This is nice. :)

We're still recovering from AX, where a lot of staff caught COVID >_<

Oof.
From what I've read concerning this year's AX, that's not as surprising as one would have liked.
Hope y'all recover OK. -
Take care of yourselves. Nothing on this website is more important than your health. I say that as a huge fan of this website who checks it every day.

Do our coins work with the Bookwalker sales for buying premium content? I've seen them advertised on Facebook but assumed it was a separate system / company.
-
@Kurzaa same name, but completely separate system.

indeed - there seemed to be some trepidation about the conversion from credits to coins (because this would facilitate price increases or devalue of stockpiled credits) but we see the more immediate reason- premium members can get premium manga included w/ membership (and they could not before) - at the rate of 9 a year.
before coins: 12 LN's /year: value $83.88 (12*$6.99)
with coins: 9 Manga/year: value $80.91 (9*$8.99) with 297 coins left overor some combination thereof
in any case more than 2/3 of my membership cost returns as digital content- if costs go up and the ratio stall in the ballpark - I'm ok with a modest price increaseAudiobooks next?

Audiobooks next?
Well they are releasing the audiobook of Slayers so...
-
@morbelek We don't have any plans to implement audiobook distribution directly on our site at this time (and we wouldn't do it for a while until there's a reasonable library at the very least).
We'll release it on other 3rd party audiobook sites which frankly would provide a better exprience than something we cobble together.
-
Just a reminder that all remaining credits will be converted to coins tomorrow or very shortly after! If you'd like to spend credits before they're converted, you have around 24 hours left.
Note that all books you can exchange for credits cost the equivalent amount in the coins you get from conversion (699). Any other books with a different coin cost cannot be exchanged for credits.
If the coin price does increase for any books on our site in the future, we will post about it here on our forums and on social media well before said increase occurs.
-
Well, I'll miss being able to see how many books I could purchase at first glance. Nothing a quick add-on couldn't fix, but still…
Suggestion for when the price increase does come to JNC: The premium content, convenience of an interoperable file and the seconds saved not having to deal with the ninety-nines every time you try to figure out how many books you have ought to be worth an extra penny, no? It'd even give it that special, premium, feel (or so I heard).
-
@garantiertnicht You're right.
But apple requires prices be X.99 on their store, and then we'd be stuck explaining to our Japanese licensors that we're charging different based prices here than on all the other 3rd party ebook stores, etc....It's just easier on the business side to keep the prices X.99 and consistent across stores (even our own!). Just think of it like a "buy 799 ebooks and get one free" stamp card!
-
@myskaros will the j-novel app be updated to reflect this change? The app still shows credits under the Account section
-
@daytona They're having trouble getting app updates approved through Apple/Google but I assume eventually.
-
@saffire We're kind of waiting to make a few other changes all at once to the app so it might be a little while but we'll definitely get to it (along with allowing purchases of coins etc IN the app).

Amazon just stopped allowing you to purchase within the Kindle app because they didn't want to give the app stores their cut.
-
@pcj I don't think iOS Kindle has ever had the option.

Yep, 30% for any digital item purchases.
