Enjoy the Weather as Well as These June Catchups!

Tired of playing in the hot sun? Looking for something to do while sipping your iced tea? Give some of these June catchup series a try!
Unfortunately, office workers don't get a break for summer, and sometimes not even in death! Luciel dies in one life right after getting a promotion and has to start all the way over from the bottom in his new world. He can't take any breaks if he wants to become The Great Cleric and retire early in his new life!
Gotta keep working if your family is poor too! Viola tries to take a shortcut by signing a marriage contract with a duke, but her busy days are just starting! Life as a show wife is so hectic that she can't help constantly screaming "Can Someone Please Explain Whatâs Going On?!"
What if you could have a cute elf to hang with this summer? Even you could have an opportunity to say "Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! Check out the wonderful manga adaptation of the story of Kazuhiro, a man who dreams of a vast fantasy world at night, only to find his elf friend Marie waking up right next to him in Japan one day!
Finally, for members newer to J-Novel Club, we've got a selection of older series for you to browse! Clockwork Planet comes from the same mind that produced No Game No Life and has a cast that's just as wacky and over-the-top! Paying to Win a VRMMO is exactly what it says on the tin, but also stars a group of copycat dual sword wielders with black coats... and finally, Last and First Idol is only a single volume of sci-fi short stories, but they've also won numerous awards in Japan!
We hope this'll be enough for members to stave off the early heat this summer, but we expect to turn the temperature up pretty soon with Anime Expo in July!

Oh well. I thought that the switch from May books to June books would happen at noon, since the changeover didnât happen at midnight, but I guess that they can happen at any time on the first of the month (or first weekday/non-holiday). Sometime in mid-to-late eleven-ish was unexpected. Iâll finish the book next time, I guess. :)
Anything that I want to read this month? HmmâŚ
Iâm current with (and enjoying) Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!, both novel and manga. I gave up on The Great Cleric after one book, since it was such a slog, but maybe Iâll try one more. While I thought that it was fine, I fell behind on Can Someone Please Explain Whatâs Going On?!, so Iâll go and read the last three books. I havenât sampled the other two stories, but the description for the first book of Paying to Win doesnât sound very promising.

Right now, catchups are done manually, so it boils down to "whenever everything is ready and people aren't in meetings." We're working on a system that allows us to set things up in advance and have it automatically switch at a designated time every month, though, so that should reduce problems of missed timing in the future!

I thought it was a fun little series with an interesting mix of humor and drama in both the MMO and real life. It's not earth-shattering but I recommend giving it a try.

Guess I'll be trying out clockwork planet this month since I've seen the anime and manga.

First and Last Idol is an intense experience, but I wholeheartedly recommend it. Just brace yourself, it is incredibly weird; beyond the ability of feeble works to describe. However weird you are expecting it to be, it is at least 10 times weirder than that. But I still think everyone should experience it once.

Hmm⌠I missed that one. Itâs not displayed when the âcatchupâ filter is selected in the iOS app. The other five are shown.

@Ingraman Whoops, our fault, it got missed in the catchup switching.

Was the site also updated? đ¤¨
I'm noticing the web reader on desktop shows an empty page at first on part 1 (at least for Monster Tamer V10). At first I thought the part wasn't loading until I pressed the right arrow and it showed the cover on page 2.
Also, the blue page doesn't appear anymore when you reach a part's end.

Apparently it was actually a stealth change to Chrome that changed the way the HTML was being displayed. It should be fixed now.

@myskaros The cover issue is indeed fixed. Blue page at the end isn't though. This is what gets logged in console when I reach the last page:

The Great Cleric
Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.
As for the others, Please Explain is a cute, very silly noble romance that I like quite a bit. Paying to Win is...exactly what it says on the tin to a degree, but the supporting cast can surprise you in a lot of ways. You do need to be able to tolerate the main character but the way he escalates things in the final volume is absolutely incredible if you need something to get through the middle parts.
-
As someone whoâs tempted to read the Ms. Elf LN howâs the manga hold up by comparison?
Also intrigued by Great Cleric, hope thatâs good.
VRMMO was rock solid and that last volume was intensely awesome.
-
@Reshes Ms. Elf is fun, and the manga does a good job of representing what's been adapted thus far.

Just a reminder that these catchups will be switching next week!
However, please be warned that next week a lot of JNC staff will be traveling to AnimeExpo, so while the changeover will definitely be after June 30, it could have to wait until later in the day on July 1 or possibly even July 2. Thank you for your understanding!
-
@myskaros was just checking the forums to see what was up. Thanks for the advanced warning even I was blind to it until now đ
Hope everyone at the convention has time to enjoy it while they are there and it's not all fun-filled work.
