@admin You have the J-Novel Pulp label for German translations. You could use that. Or because I read somewhere you originally wanted to call the company K-Novel (kei for light?)
So J-Novel Kei

@MasterLillyclaw Also because there is already Hearts and Clubs. So Diamonds would fit the card suit theme.
@morbelek How about "J-Novel Novel" (novel being a synonym for original =P ).
@QuixoticHorizon Sure. Or they could do J-Kei Novel. =)
@admin said in [SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN!] JNC Original Light Novel Contest:
We haven't decided exactly whether we'd do a new label or […]
Those JNC employees who aren’t busy reading the light novel submissions will soon be busy sorting through submissions of new names for the label for these stories!
Well at least we decided not to call this contest "Rising Stars of Light Novels", right?
I’m sure that Stu Levy has Rising Stars trademarked. :p
I can’t beat anyone here for a name.
The best I can come up with is a terrible pun - J-Novel Red.
It keeps the card theme and calls back to these being a submission model instead of an acquisition one.
One story idea that I wasn't able to find time to work on would have had the following title.
The Reward For a Job Well Done: More Work
With a potential sequel title of.
The Reward For a Difficult Job Well Done: An Impossible Job
@admin Would the winners have any authority over the design of their characters, aside from what is described in the prose? Would they be able to give a fully detailed description, along with reference and inspiration images?
@VaelArche our intention is to work together with the winners on the eventual presentation of their work.
@admin Awesome. Appreciate the reply. ^_^
@admin I did wonder about that because I create pictures of what my main players look like at a fairly early stage as it helps me get "in character" when I write their lines. So when my alternate-universe self wins the alternate-universe competition I guess he can send them over :)
@admin This is an old post, but I have to say: I wish I saw it sooner. I found out about the contest super late (January 23rd) and although I took the time to read over and edit my story, it was only after submitting it that I noticed some silly grammar and contingency errors. They're pretty much all in the second half and shouldn't be glaring enough that they affect enjoyment, but it's nice to know the contest is a little lenient in this regard. I really wanted to double slap myself over some of the errors.
Side note: It feels like this contest was announced or mentioned on very few sites? I only found out about it because I randomly decided to google "light novel contest" and I'm not really complaining since I had a completed story to submit, it was just something I was curious about.
@mononyan When it was first announced I remember Anime News Network did an article about it, and I'm pretty sure it was on Crunchyroll's news feed too. Of course, since the time between the contest opening and closing was so large (literally half a year) if the initial posting is missed then it's hard to find out; ANN and co aren't going to post again unless something in the rules changes considerably, or to report on any winners.
@QuixoticHorizon Yeah I figured ANN at least would have posted something. I usually check the site daily, I guess I still missed it because there's no way I'd forget.
Oh well I'm glad I thought to search the topic before the deadline.
Good luck, everyone! I hope your books are selected.
Good luck to all the participants who've submitted stuff, and let's hope the judges are working fast! I know I'm dying for feedback on my manuscript, at the very least.
@Tabac_Iberez I think they only promised feedback from the next round forward. 😞
@Tabac_Iberez Only those who pass the first round of judging get feedback, and it won't be handed out until closer to the end of the second round of judging. You can always ask for feedback here however:
https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/7938/jnc-writing-group-feedback-thread
Contest entries can't be posted publicly while they're being judged, so if you want to post right away, you'll need to share it privately only upon request. Works that are eliminated in the first and second round can be posted publicly, however.
I'm guessing the announcement for round 1 will be tomorrow. They said the end of march but since today is the 31st and a sunday.im sure they're all enjoying their weekend right now. Or maybe the announcement is at midnight or something. Good luck everyone!
@Patrick-Sweet-gpupwd3 I think it was said elsewhere (might be the discord?) that they were behind on entries and announcing the results would be delayed (not sure how long).
