A 10 volume series, recently (re)released by Kodansha Bunko on October 14th, 2022, and penned by none other than NISIOISIN of many a novel fame.
Perhaps the only work within the larger Nisio-verse to perforate and penetrate its contents across a dimension larger than usual, unconcerned with the concentration of a limited, repeating cast, and of which is more consequential, more bloody, in tone. Suppose for example if Katanagatari elaborated on the Maniwa Corps to the extent it did its two protagonists, and if in turn the Maniwa Corps were threat enough to permanently impede their journey somehow. Again, suppose if Shinobu and Kagenui were demonstrated in actual combat, rather than teased so, as many times as they've been, and one or the other was brutally killed, leaving Araragi to handle the ensuing mess. Things like that.
You could say it's a Nisio-not-Nisio novel in that there's talks of talk but now everyone also walks the walk, borrowing quite a bit from his foremost series.A small synopsis:
The story follows Kuu Sorakara, an unfeeling boy who always puts on a mask of emotion to hide the fact that he can never feel any emotion. One day, a scream was heard all around the world, killing a third of the human population. Six months later, Kuu confesses his unfeeling disposition to a doctor during a check-up, thinking nothing of it-Now, it's worth noting that no insert illustrations exist for this work, and it is complete.
