Once more from beloved TO books, featuring this time a story not quite common, purely urban, a death game the scope of which the author intends to be titanic beyond titanic- one whose stage, whose rostrum, whose grandstand, whose orchestra shall unfold over literally the entirety of a simulated, super technological (fake) earth!
Beginning point: Tokyo
I purchased a copy myself purely because it's these super sized stories I'd like to see actualize their infinite potentialHere, a synoposis-

Slave or Fortune: Ten Billion Yen.
A battle unfolds within the virtual cityscape of Tokyo, where hidden among the NPC residents are the true players—twenty hundred geniuses vying to snatch away lives, one coin at a time. And so, the battle begins.
This is the story of a daring experiment by Archive Corporation, aiming to push the boundaries of human evolution—an immersive full-dive VR called Fake Earth, where the entire real world is flawlessly recreated. When his friend Rinko mysteriously disappears after logging in, Kaito Asuzu plunges into this enigmatic game, determined to find her
Only those with “special talents” are invited to participate—players masquerading as NPCs, hunting each other for precious coins, their lives at stake. Collect seven coins, and you can return to reality with a prize of ten billion yen. Fail, and your identity is overwritten; your consciousness erased, your soul condemned to serve as an NPC—enslaved forever
Armed with the cutting-edge app Gear, which materializes super-science into reality, and gifted with an innate “overseeing sight” that can see through lies, Kaito must deceive his rivals, uncover the truth, and reunite with Rinko. All while risking his very memories—this is a battle royale where the stakes are nothing less than his own sense of self. Will he succeed in this perilous game, or-
become yet another pawn lost in its shadows?Tricks and schemes. Will confronting Will.

With 2 volumes out, published initially during 2024/12/10, hopefully they'll be more.
Let's rebuild another rebuilt world.

As much as Sam says that sci-fi series don’t sell well in Japan, I always hope that it’s just a matter of finding a series with that secret sauce. Let’s hope this one fits the bill.
Edit: I checked the author/artist credits to see if they did anything I know of and WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE ARTIST DREW A BOOK VERSION OF BACK TO THE FUTURE
