What's your favorite Isekai "Cheat"?
-
So in Isekai, the main characters often get a cheat skill, many times courtesy of God. Obviously, these can range from OP Godlike abilities to... a bathtub.
Any ones that stand out to you as unique? Most broken? Most useless?
Worst cheat pick is pretty easy, I think. I mean, it's in the title:
Konosuba: Oh My Useless Goddess
-
The best part of Konosuba is the protagonist is actually really good. The LN stuff where we are shown that without his party, he kicks quite a bit of arse (in a not so OP way) is fun. The author has said that if he didn't choose Aqua, he'd have defeated the Demon Lord already.

The one thing that surprised me, hearing so much about Kazuma being a bit of a jerk / rub salt in the wound kind of dude, is that he's actually really nice and patient. He's always carrying Megumin around after she exhausts herself.
Volume 2 spoilers:
-
Part of it is the anime, and part of it is people have an innate backlash because he is 'mean' to the girls at times, IMO.
The anime doesn't help though, as some realllly creepy stuff is done by him that is done by someone else in the novels. (The time with the succubus, all that creepy pedo stuff is asked by someone else and Kazuma is creeped out. In the anime, he asks and is not creeped out.)
-
@terrence I'll reserve judgement on the usefulness of that bathtub.
-
@paul-nebeling The bathtub is super useful for fan-service. I love it.

Aqua is definitely the most useless isekai cheat ever. And I agree that the anime really makes Kuzuma a disservice, he's nowhere near as bad as the anime adaptation makes him look. The worst offense the anime did was cutting-off the part where he switches parties with Dust.

They cut that out? I was curious to see the anime someday but if that’s their approach I’m not so interested.
-
@paulnamida The Dust part was one of my favorite parts in the first couple volumes. Makes me glad I passed on the anime then.

In general, while the anime is good, they kind of make Kazuma look a lot less...competent. And more skeevy.

While the party swap is one of my favorite chapters/vignettes, I didn't particularly feel like the LN was really doing Kazuma any favors either, it's just a matter of whether you think Kazuma is smarter or every other character is dumber >_>
-
I'll just call it one of the best isekai cheats out there. However, the best is probably is from Re:Zero. Subaru's only power is overwhelming, but the drawback is just as bad.
Especially when it doesn't work how you want it to. T.T

Smile Power :)
Flight, Teleportation, Invisibility :I
Slavemancer ;\ -
If you want to hear my original Cheat power I would have if I was "Isekaied," then it would be; the power of plot convenience. if I need/want to talk to a certain guy then it turns out that he is just right there, if I need an antidote for some venom then it turns out there is the antidote just lying there, If I am stabbed it turns out I had a book or pocket watch blocking that stab.
edit: I was planning on making a post about what we would want our power to be if we were swept into another world. I will just create it now.

A cheat I found extremely fun was "Hero" Masayuki's in the Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken webnovel. Essentially, his "Hero" skill makes his every action to be misunderstood as heroic and gives him great charisma and luck, and while his fighting skills are rather mediocre, his "lucky aura" affects his party as well... and as you could guess, a "Hero" has quite a decent party, so they get quite a benefit from this skill. And in the end, because of the skill, most of the credit goes to him. And his party members don't even get mad because "He's being kind enough to let us take the spotlight!! What a humble hero!!"
But this guy is just a side-character that would get manhandled by the time-controlling, reality-benders that are the top tier in that world lol.
-
There's a WN where a guy gets the power of a Visual Novel protagonist. He can save and reload, so he feels free to do whatever the heck he pleases first time through. This isn't too dissimilar to Re:Zero's ability, but this guy actually has control over save points.
I haven't read through much of it, I think it goes to a dark place early, but yeah, that sounds like an enticing power to me. I love Visual Novels.
-
@terrence do you know what it is called? and by dark, what kind of dark cuz I can think of a few places it can go. the Hentai kind of dark, or the Overlord or Re:Zero kind of dark.

The perverse dark, yeah. Think of how visual novel characters get responses like 1) Rush in for a Kiss, 2) Hold Her Hand, and 3) Say Goodnight. He'd choose option 1 then keep escalating it until he winds up in jail, then reload.
Of course, I forget if that's what happens in this particular one, or I'm remembering something else, but yeah, it's "Neet Receives a Dating Sim System".
Edit: I checked, and he talks about doing controversial stuff, but says he has the self-control not to. So maybe I made up that scenario from there. I think there are other VN cheat protags out there, so maybe some of them have.

I think most unique has to be "Turned into a Vending Machine". Literally needs people to put in more coins to power his abilities, and can only produce things that a vending machine sells. Good thing that the main character was from Japan and they sell just about everything in vending machines there.
