The Water Magician - LN vs Manga? (or anime)
-
I've read
too manymultiple forum posts here and a few reviews elsewhere on the light novel and manga. The impression I'm getting is this: The LN has too much detail and takes its time progressing whereas the manga guts dahell outta some chapters while rushing ahead at times. Worst of the LN is the science because, according to the one poster who remembered I guess, it's intentionally not based on real world physics and therefore frustrates some readers to no end. Worst part of the manga is that things make less sense due to the skipped details and gutted content. 🤷🏿♂️Anybody wanna add their thoughts to the pool? I'm leaning heavily towards the LN for the sake of dat sweet content, but maybe the manga's not as gutted as people say?
Part of me really hopes somebody went out of their way to 'fanpatch' JNC's LN translation so it feels less 'bogged down' for most readers. -
IMO, the good news is that it's better than Isekai Tensei. The bad news is that Isekai Tensei starting with the third volume quickly devolves into just a step above stream of conscious journaling with a dash of dialog for seasoning.
I don't think I ever had a problem with The Water Magician's science. Most likely because it became quite clear that the MC is full of it; baselessly self-important with delusions of gradure. Not really a character that's taken at face value.
I think for people who want words on a page the LN is for them. For people after a story, then the manga and anime provide it while still capturing the feeling of the LN. For people who want some light reading, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
