Native name: Destiny Unchain Online ~吸血鬼少女となって、やがて『赤の魔王』と呼ばれるようになりました~
Unofficial English translation: Destiny Unchain Online ~I Became a Vampire Girl and Eventually Became Known as the “Demon King of Blood”~
      Publisher: Kodansha
      Author: resn
      Artist: Yachimoto
WN volumes: 574+ (as of 2022-12-25)
      Volumes: 1 (as of 2022-12-25)
Manga: Yes (2 volumes as of 2022-12-25)

      What is it? (synopsys)
Kou Mitsuki is a gamer with god-like skills who also goes by the nickname "Headhunting Crim". He participates in a test of a new game device for his father's new game, "Destiny Unchained Online". But the game was filled with bugs at the start and he ends up as a vampire girl. Meeting amazing allies, and taking the game by storm, the story of a top-tier gamer where anything and everything can change....begins!

      Why?
I spotted a fanscan of the manga version, and because I'm a sucker for genderbending I gave it a look. What really hooked me however is the way the story goes about it's premise seems to indicate that there is a lot more to it than it seems. To not go past the first chapter, the story posits that his parents developed the titular Destiny Unchain Online "for him" complete with a custom controller (so he can play for literal months on end) as if it were a gift, which is a weird way for one's parents to describe a massive VRMMO game with bespoke controller installation. There's more beyond the opening as well, so I have my suspicions about how much of the synopsis is a red herring. If you've read through A Wild Last Boss Appeared!, you should have some idea of what that might entail.

Yes please! I’ve been following the manga on Magazine Pocket. Unusually, the manga came out before the LN, and both have the same artist.

Update, 2023-02-25: Bookwalker has listed a third manga volume for release on March 9th, 2023. I'll update the original post in a moment. Whoops! Guess I can't lol. (They have not listed a 2nd light novel volume yet as of this post.)

Manga volume 3 on JPN Bookwalker: https://bookwalker.jp/dea4507733-a123-4972-b5f6-1a1ad6d86ac7/

Glad I'm not alone in wanting to see this series come west.

Hello, it's me with another update. JP Bookwalker has a listing for a fourth manga volume, for release on May 9th, 2023. Still seemingly no word on a second LN volume. I'll keep eyes out for that.

Here's the listing for manga volume 4: https://bookwalker.jp/de0279766e-a7d8-464c-8827-56307addcdf1/

Hello! JP Bookwalker has listed a fifth manga volume. It's listed here: https://bookwalker.jp/de4140b1ec-e261-4e69-a2a7-ceacd1b78ff9/

If you're wondering, there still isn't a listing for a second LN volume. I'll come back with an update if one pops up.

Given we’ve gotten 6+ manga volumes and no LN volumes since the first one, is it safe to assume the LN is stalled?

@Torka I don't know. Finding out what the status is on the LNs something I'm not sure how to do. That said, as far as I can see the manga version is continuing unabated. AnimeNewsNetworks' database points to an online serialization for the manga on Magazine Pocket's website from Kodansha, and from what I can see it hasn't stopped it's weekly releases on Fridays. (As I write this, it's up to chapter 60 releasing on Feb. 9th.)

It could be a number of things. Weirdly, the manga artist and the LN artist are the same - in fact, the manga's first volume came out about a month ahead of the LN. I could buy that the rather long time for a LN2 is because they're trying to keep pace with the manga version.

I've been periodically checking to see when new manga or light novel volumes get listed on JPN book walker - I figure if the manga hasn't stopped, that should be getting a 7th volume pretty soon.

@Realspace Oh no. I'm slipping. Manga volume seven was released on 2024-03-08, and I didn't catch it's existence until now. Here's the link.

I too would like to read this LN and / or Manga.

No news about it at all, so likely delayed or cancelled. But since the web novel is still going, there is always a chance book 2 will pop up. It was last updated on March 5, 2024 with a new chapter.

@sorvani I am also curious if the LN was cancelled, but the manga is slated to continue.

For what it's worth, the manga vol. 7 description mentions 【全巻発売即重版の人気作!】at the end of it, which some quick machine translation gives something about "all volumes going into overprint" which doesn't sound like a marketing bullet point if it wasn't selling.

If J-Novel Club could get both the novel and manga, it would be definitely worth considering.

I would actually prefer the manga over the light novel, seeing that it currently has more volumes than the original, but if JNC can get both I would be super happy!

Right now I also would probably prefer the manga, but the novel sounds nice too.

Hello! They've listed an 8th manga volume on Bookwalker Japan. It releases 2024-07-09.

No, I don't know what happened with the light novels, they're still at one volume. (Maybe they got canned in favor of the manga? Someone better at researching than I can figure that out.)

@Realspace As long as J-Novel Club will get the manga, I‘m already happy. I don‘t usually read such series in print, it simply takes up too much space (since most times they have so many volumes).
(For example you don‘t know how happy I am, that JNC licensed the manga of A Late-Start Tamer‘s Laid-Back Life. I really like the manga but buying it in print would have been a no go for me, just because of the length of this title.)

And because I can, for anyone interested here are the covers of the manga:

I come with an incredible development. Bookwalker Japan has listed a new light novel volume, LN Volume 2. The LNs are in fact, not cancelled. The listed publication date is 2024-07-31, about 21 months after LN 1.
