While innocently reaching for some half-priced bento, You Satou finds himself beaten up on the floor of a supermarket. He soon learns that getting half-priced bento is an all-out brawl between customers.
You is invited to the Half-Priced Food Lovers Club by one of the top fighters, Sen Yarizui, in order to train to compete in these battles.
Ofc, these battles have rules:
-Every brawler must wait away from the bento area until the God of Discounts, the ones who put the half-price sticker on the bento boxes, puts the sticker on the bento boxes and leave to the break room before beginning to battle.
To take one beforehand and to harass the God of Discounts is disrespectful, as the last thing they need at the end of their shift are people harassing them for their discount.
-If another brawler manages to get a bento for themselves, they cannot be attacked. If two or more brawlers get their hands on the same bento, then they fight among themselves until the other lets go of the bento.
-A brawler can only take one bento, to take another would be greedy and would spoil the victory for another.
-Brawlers should never do anything to cause a bento to spill, doing that would mean one less bento for someone to get.
This was such an under-appreciated comedy back when it aired. And from the little that was translated of the LN, you can tell that it's a lot more fleshed out than the adaptation, not really surprinsing from this medium, but the amount of detail given in the action scenes in the LN makes even its wacky animated version pale in comparison.

Humor and a bat shit crazy central theme make me want the hell out of this one!
Spotlight time! A friendly bump to an older post that hasn't had any recent conversation and is lower on votes in order to draw attention to it.
I wish this would be released in English so you get a up vote 2 year old post, and hopefully one day it will get translated

I loved the anime adaption
@BloodyGaikotsu PLEEEEEASE OH PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAASE TAKE THIS UP
Maybe time to revisit this now, now that the world's situation is making the theme of the novel much more relevant? I have saw this title being brought up multiple times in recent months.

Light Novel: 15 volumes, complete.
There is a repetitive theme in Japanese LNs, etc., of the all-out warfare at the school lunch counter, the joy of those who emerge victorious, the desolation of those who find themselves bereft of all hope.
There is also the theme of two individuals reaching for the last item of a given food substance at the convenience store.
And the theme of having totally bizarre martial arts competitions.
And thus, Ben-To.
I'd never heard of this before, but it looks like it might be fun.
