[Manga] Gate: Where the JSDF Fought! (Rescue)
-
@HarunaChieP Alphapolis is only strict regarding their LNs. There has been moderate success with their manga getting licensed. Although I'm hoping more for SS to license the Gate manga than JNC.
-
@Aruseus493 Oh that's good to hear somehow, at least there is a bit of hope now
-
I guess this update could be forwarded to all Alphapolis series but:
AlphaPolis Launches Alpha Manga App for Smartphones
It seems that at least for their manga, rather than go through a middleman they just decided to sell it directly. And this includes GATE.
-
I'll be interested in seeing how well this fares, you only get the first 3 chapters free and have to pay for everything else which seems to be the same model a lot of Japanese digital manga apps use, but will be different from the Viz model which gives the first 3 chapters free and if the manga is ongoing, the most recent 3 chapters so that users can follow the series, but if they want to read the back-catalogue or completed series they'll need to pay.
-
Honestly, I think it could work. MangaPlus and Shonen Jump having the latest three chapters free was to a)outpace people who make low-quality scanslations with the official thing and b)provide advertisement, as these series are incredibly popular both in Japan and the US.
AlphaPolis series, though? First of all, they’re all manga adaptations of isekai web novels - which means that if anyone is truly looking for spoilers, they can just look up a translation site. And again, something like THE NEW GATE or World Customize Creator or Re:Monster isn’t massively popular enough for some schmuck to steal a copy of the magazine before it officially releases and hastily make a machine-translated English version.
The closest comparison is maybe Kodansha, who also paywalls their newest chapters - at the very least, you can stay up to date with an Azuki subscription, but yeah.
-
@torka I think it will depend a lot on how much these tickets cost and how many you can acquire for free. Even if you pay, you only unlock the chapter for a week, so you'll have to keep paying for more tickets if you want to keep going back to read things again later.

Hello,
The above information is certainly a new page in the overseas manga game, however this particular topic is not the place for that discussion.
If you would like to discuss Alpha Manga feel free to open a new topic to discuss this new chapter in Alphapolis’ business.
Thank you

The manga is great. Would love for it to be licensed again now that it's free from Sekai Project.
-
Alphapolis seems to have sub-licensed the manga to Crunchyroll. Would be nice if they let J-NC sell volumes too.

WARNING: Buy at your own risk. Anyone who wishes to buy the manga from Sekai Project will find it still available on Amazon. Unfortunately, it is expensive and costs $302.93. Personally, it's not worth it if it costs so much.

That volume says "used," So not from the publisher?
-
It's being sold by some place called "Dwhits Discount Books" which I seriously doubt is the name of the official publisher's marketplace account (assuming they sold the books that way at all)
-
@Mustafar12 or if you really want a copy vol.01 is still available from the sekai project but only a few left, vol.02 is sold out
-
Apparently, the GATE manga is available in the Kindle format by Alphaplois, and the first 3 volumes were released 2 weeks ago.
