Acquisitions Speculation - General

Updated. I guess its' going to be an interesting novel.
-
wait if Sam said the last two announces were basically done for vol 1 translations then are we going to get a 3rd fan-translated series? If so then this could narrow down the possibilities. just narrow down to credible or good fan-translations and then there would not be that much left, all it would take is the hint and we could have a reasonable guess.
-
@drone205 that is indeed a possibility!
-
If he hired the fan translator in the first place and has enough trust in that "published" version, then I suppose that cuts out the translation step entirely. Otherwise it would depend on how familiar with the fan translation the editor is already, since if you have a translation checker go over the fan script first, that's going to take about as much time as a translator translating from scratch.
-
If we're talking about quality translations with a volume already fan-translated, maybe Sam has finally broken through the Kadokawa barrier and grabbed 86.

Not a Light Novel
When was that hint mentioned?

It was the first hint, they gave 2 hints per title, apart from the fifth one.
-
To go with "Not a Light Novel", maybe it isn't a novel-novel, but not a light novel. In other words, a heavy, emotional novel.
could fit there.
-
@terabyte
Ah~
I only started playing the guessing game recently so, I didn't know... -
Or maybe the Horizon series?? Those 1000 page long novels can't be considered "light"
-
I only know that 86 was on Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!
Would it fit the other hint?
"A personal story"? -

Exactly.
I mean, I definitely would love it if it is a novel label novel, but I think "emotional" or "lengthy" novel would be good too. So... I think I'll be happy either way.
Unless it's the unforseen option 4...

"A personal story"?I feel like "A Personal Story" will be something like the Japanese equivalent of that in the title. Like My Love Story is Ore Monogatari. Monogatari meaning "story"? And there's all sorts of other stories with Monogatari in the name, like Bakemonogatari.
If it weren't already licensed, I'd be thinking something fiction but based on personal experiences, Welcome to the NHK. Personal experiences made into manga stories are a hot commodity now with My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, The Bride Was A Boy, and even something fiction like My Brother's Husband hits a personal tone to me.
I feel like that hint isn't extremely helpful though since everything can be considered the main character's personal story (especially if told from First Person).
-
@terrence
I think a novel from other Kodansha labels may fit too since they ain't exactly light novel labels (or that's just my wishful thinking speaking~) -
@terrence
Well, I did find an overlap series with very similar title "Lonely Myself Saga" but that's light novel (and It didn't look like it's that heavy emotionally).Hmmm, Welcome to the N.H.K.
I'd love to see it licensed again (but that's by Kadokawa Shoten)Well, according to this, we may ignore the titles with long volumes.
https://curiouscat.me/jnovelclub/post/343001981?1521248913They are really useless hints tho, as they only raise our expectations...(lol)

https://curiouscat.me/jnovelclub/post/343001981?1521248913To counter that a bit though, a title that has a fan translator who already worked on it can reach a deal that is a bit more cost friendly than asking a translator to start from scratch. So if there's a title with really dense material that some passionate fan translator has been uploading, maybe they'd look at licensing that.
As long as the series length isn't insane, I don't mind long volumes... With the caveat that I'd like more prepub parts to separate them into manageable chunks. Some long prepub parts read by Text to Speech programs set to Fast take an hour and a half. O.o

Regarding "Not a light novel," within the last few months ago, Sam was talking about wanting to license something that I vaguely remember being some kind of memoir or autobiography. I wasn't too interested, so I didn't pay attention, but I think he mentioned which one specifically.
That fits the hints very well, so I am very much expecting it to be whatever non-fiction book he had mentioned back then.
-
@hatguy12 Maybe this one Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita

-
AS MUCH AS I would like it to be Jintai, it is not. Hint 4 is exactly what it sounds like. It is a personal story, an autobiography. No fiction book - which is why we got the "not a light novel" clue.
-
Not really knowledgeable enough to speculate, but a personal story and not a light novel could be Kino’s Journey, but I’m probably way off base, seeing that it was started to be translated then cancelled.
-
@carolinefelicity Oh, in that case, I think Majo no Tabitabi would fit. It's pretty much a fantasy version of Kino's Journey and the protagonist wants to eventually write a book about her travels.
