Yeah, the anime got some flak for some anti-Semitic beliefs of the director. Not that any of that made it into the show itself, so...

Anyway, show is great. Great romance, fun characters, great OP, and just really fun overall.

It's a fairly laid back LN .... sort wondering how that would translate into an anime.

I agree, heck it gets worse than that since the anime staff completely missed the entire point of the tournament. In the light novel their was never really any question who the winner would be but so their was no drama their, however it was all part of Mile's plan to make her friends seem more amazing than her which naturally fails. Hopefully the anime can get back on track now.

I guess I really should check out what's on Aniplus this season. I'm curious about the new Psycho-Pass though.

Yeah, and considering one of the bigger selling points of HiDive is the availability of streaming uncensored anime I could see issues with Apple policy.

Well, looks like CR is finally being useful and giving fans what they want. They were a big part in the production committee for the first season. What do you know, the show was a smash hit and more seasons get announced. I wonder if Kinema Citrus will still work on it.

@rahul-balaggan said in Thoughts on the new Funimation “levels” of premium memberships?:

@zing Region Lock sucks, that being said from personal experience you will not have to deal with their frustrating website and apps to actually watch something.

Its fine, I still have my CR membership, which I've been using purely for reading manga recently.

@travis-butler No problem man. I really like Eva too. It's just that I often feel it needs better resolution. (That's why I much prefer the manga.)

Also, the way the Rebuild movies took a dark turn really left a bad taste. (Although it was probably intended.)

any thoughts as to what this means (might mean) for titles that Hulu licenses from CR/Funimation (or wherever)
any thoughts on "Western" companies and anime-esque stuff? Netflix/Dreamworks produced VOLTRON and it did well

I think it is poetic that (I think) Stan Lee's last cameo is in the film that won the Oscar and in in the franchise he created.

@seltzermx I’m with you. Right now I pay $50/year for an Annual Crunchy subscription and I don’t honestly foresee myself paying any more regardless of what “value-adding” crap they offer. If they take away that offer I don’t watch enough to make it worth it. I’ll just watch what’s on Netflix instead.

@sinnoaria I think it depend on what you defined as an H-game, if it's something like Fate Stay/night, it's not a problem, if it's one of thoose game advertise on streaming/porn site then it's not really the same thing.

@bloodygaikotsu Yeah, I was just implying that the Twin Engine works might not translate to a huge surge in popularity for Amazon. On the other hand, the target audience for those anime might have less qualms to pay for Prime as a means to watch anime than, say, the average resident of /r/anime.

I'm not sure I fully understand the idea behind this topic so I probably might wonder off-topic. But still. Anime has turned seasonal since forever (or at the very least 2008-2010) which is a good thing because in the prior age it has been plagued with anime original endings and other god awful mockery of the source. On the other side, anime is now a lot less standalone and self-contained, often feels like a short promotion.

But it's not like it's something new, the current generation possibly doesn't even remember those times...? And not much has changed since the shift, except maybe the introduction of split-cours and seasons becoming shorter and shorter.

Maybe for some it feels like the seasons have become more frequent and hence more "seasonal" but in reality it's really just Shounen Jump. While they did more long-running series before, nowadays they usually prefer to test the waters first and then continue with the more popular franchises. Plus they are now giving at least one season to literally any relatively popular manga.

Others are pretty much doing the same thing they have always done though. Unfortunately, I don't feel like there are all that more sequels than before, just the usual super-popular things, the rest stops at two seasons at best. Often it's pseudo "two" seasons when they cut a planned 24-episode series into 2 seasons of 12 eps. And as always the best stuff usually has only one >_>
