Novel pick-up requests

@Thomask for what it's worth the translation has left some things to be desired.
In fact I am reading through the novel and the Manga they work well together filling gaps making sure everything gets across.
All in all I still like One Peace Books as a publisher.
-
@Thomask The translation is good but it needs a better editor. Also you have read the fan translations of the WN version and the LN story differs a lot from the WN from what I know. There are new characters and events in the LN.
BTW, "Legendary moonlight Sculptor" is a Korean light novel so I don't think it will ever be licensed. I don't think there are any Korean light novel licensing companies.

As a reminder, if Lost Universe is possible, I'd love to read it.
I do have all of the books, but I don't know enough Kanji or understand verbs well enough to properly know the novel-only story.
Much appreciated. I know it was from back in the 90's, but still special to me. -
@Sam-Pinansky don't mean to hate. But am I the only one who finds it weird when someone praises themselves like that? It gives me the wrong vibe, like a bit arrogant or overconfident... Or is it just me who is lacking in something? No hate though Sam, you do look intelligent.
-
@Hakomari Well, the story of the WN differs actually a lot from LN from vol 5 or 6 I think. Also, the release date of Shieldbro this year is pretty good. This month I get vol 7 and release plan this year is like 2-4-2 what is much better than YP. Same it is with Bakemonogatari. New volume every 2 months so far.

@Thomask Parroting what's replied above. Translation seems okay, but plenty of typos and questionable word choices that could be either a translation or editing issue. Still recommended if you really like the storyline, but be prepared if you're at all someone who likes good english.
I got brought into it by the manga and then on a whim decided to pick up the LN and it feels a lot more complete (as is usual for LN>manga>anime adaptations). The current status of the LN is farther than where I'm at with the manga, and since reading the LN, I've found each manga chapter missing some details that make the story better.
-
@ImIlyaz it comes off that way without context. I'm a phd'd theoretical physicist with a triple degree from Carnegie Mellon and perfect SAT scores and I decided to become an anime translator.
So calling myself a "genius" is actually kind of self deprecating humor at this point.
On the other hand conceited mad scientist is kind of the vibe I end up giving off.
-
@sparhawk6 Yeah, One Peace Books has overall a good translation speed. I am hoping they will pick up more titles. I have sent them a few title requests before but haven't gotten any answer yet :(
-
@Sam-Pinansky now I'm curious. Higgs, Skyrmions, gravitational waves or something completely different?
Btw. I would like to see Honzuki no Gekokujou (Ascendance of a bookworm) but I'm not even sure if there is a light novel or if it is just a WN.
-
@DasLeswile I am a string theorist actually.
You can find some of my research papers on the arxiv if you're curious. My main research was into quiver gauge theories and their relationships to algebraic geometry however. As for Honzuki... Yes there is an LN, it's extremely popular in Japan and it's definitely on my radar. I'm holding off on it for now.
-
@Sam-Pinansky Wait. Is it possible that your research has some clue regarding the "Fractal?" title pickup?
-
@Hakomari No I didn't do research into eternal inflation myself.
-
@Sam-Pinansky Lol I'd imagine some people actually agreeing with you licensing their LNs because of all that physicist degree stuff you just mentioned.
-
@Sam-Pinansky said in Novel pick-up requests:
I'm a phd'd theoretical physicist with a triple degree from Carnegie Mellon and perfect SAT scores and I decided to become an anime translator.
By sheer coincidence, this also just happens to be the light novel title I was going to request...
-
@Liz My autobiography is not for sale. Wait... does that mean my harem is my group of translators?
Now things just got awkward.
-
@Sam-Pinansky That sounds really weird :D
-
@Sam-Pinansky I always KNEW I was the idiot friend in someone else's harem anime... :p
-
@Liz Please! Translate that one! Thats a must read.
-
@Cole-Seeley I wrote up a brief piece recasting Sam as Ichiro from VRMMO, but... it's the middle of the night over in Japan, I don't want to make him mad right before bed ;)
-
@Liz "Nonsense". Out with it.
=P
