Didn't see this posted already so,

English title: Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor
Japanese title: ロクでなし魔術講師と禁忌教典 (Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records)

      Cover

      Author: Tarou Hitsuji
      Illustrator: Kurone Mishima (KonoSuba)

Publisher: Fujimi Fantasia Bunko (Fujimi Shobo)
Books released: 21 (ongoing) + 9 spinoff volumes
Manga adaptation?: Yes (licensed by Seven Seas)
      Anime adaptation?: Yes

      LNDB
      MAL
      Bookwalker

      Synopsis (from Seven Seas)

Sisti is a magic-user in training who attends a prestigious magical academy where she hopes to be trained by the best of the best. However, when her instructor suddenly retires, his replacement is anything but what Sisti had hoped for—idle, incompetent, and always late! Can Sisti still learn magic and unravel the secrets of the mysterious Sky Castle with such a terrible teacher as her guide?

Why do I want this series?

A magic school story, with some cliches, yet with great comedy and very likeable characters. Even if rushed, the anime was quite fun. There are fan translations for some of the volumes, but I would like to read it officially.

      Quof got a break.

Would definitely be a great addition to the library, especially after anime had botched the second half so badly.

Loved the first half of the anime.
The MC is a genius and different from many others.
Also the scenes with Sistine being tsuntsun were lovely.
I feel like the second half didn't express the right feelings in the right way and I would like to read the original to change my mind.
          I approve.

I would love to see this get licensed. I really enjoyed the characters in the anime, and I want to find out what happens to them in the LNs.

Great plot, fun characters, and the mc is the type that I like the most. Not beta, relaxed, and a hidden badass (hth combat expertise is the best for an mc to have :P). Would love to see this get picked up.

I’m really surprised no one has released this in English yet. Anyone know if there are licensing challenges related?

@the-green-death the main challenges would be "but it's not isekai, noone will buy it" and "it has more than 10 volumes, we can't risk it".

@novurdim If its not isekai that's all the more reason for them to pick it up. The majority of J-Novel Club's licenses are Isekai. It's better to have some variety than none at all.

This series is still fantasy though, which sells. I don't think it would sell badly either, so I presume it has more to do with the publisher.

That being said, from J-NC we only have 2 Kadokawa series so far, so I'm curious about what would be next batch.

From what I heard SukaSuka isn't selling all that well so I'm not so sure about that. Though maybe suka is just too high-quality for this market.

I liked the anime and manga so getting to read the LN would be awesome.

I still have hope for this one. Maybe J-novel Club will answer my prayers.

Well people always ask for it, so on that front there is hope. As long as people keep asking you never know.

If you ask me, why this has not been licensed yet, its probably because of the amount of money the JP publisher wants and the label - its seems pretty hard to obtain something from them.

On the other hand, the longer a series contiunes to grow and isnt licensed, the smaller the chances of it getting licensed are.

@novurdim SukaSuka is also a series that isn’t exactly “happy”. Most of the people I know read LNs for the action or the good feels. So maybe that has something to do with it.

I am quite saddened that SukaSuka has not done very well, I was hoping that Yen Press would eventually take up the sequel SukaMoka to continue the story (still hoping!).

I would easily have a read of this series, if I recall the manga is under license by Sevean Seas Entertainment, which J-Novel appears to have a good relationship with, so maybe not a hundred miles away from possible.

                                          Sistine shipper here :D

Sorry but the relationship between JNC & Seven Seas will have no effect on whether this title is licensed or not, Seven Seas doesn’t hold the rights to the light novel license.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.
