Acquisitions Speculation - General
-
I’m not big on horror, but I think I’d be a little disappointed if the majority of October announcements were anything else. It just wouldn’t feel right.
-
There are no hints for our announcements this time.
-
I hope we get a Bofuri announcement, I"m amazed that no one has licensed that series yet.
-
My fear is someone like Sol Press has licensed it and is just sitting on it like they did for Chivalry.
-
@catstorm yeah Sol press are the destroyer of dreams and licences...
-
@Eternal-Wanderer I recall Sam mentioning at some point that his bid for Bofuri was rejected(?). I might remember wrong though (or he was just messing around maybe, lol).
-
@Terabyte
You remember right but that was before they did print so it might change. -
Stream has started
-
I was pretty happy with the announcements. In for some fun stuff (Yuri and Dungeon Busters) and our first real world romcom.
-
@Terrence so I don’t see the news posted anywhere. Which is the Romcom? Want to follow that for sure
-
-
Thank you. I’ll read that one for sure!
Do wish they’d consolidate the announcements somewhere for those of us who don’t watch the whole panel.
-
@the-green-death I think that they normally include them in their monthly update e-mail, whenever that goes out. They may also include them on the front page when they update it next, but that's usually monthly when the catch-up series change. I don't think that they really post a list anywhere else though.
-
@the-green-death ANN has an article about the licenses: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-10-09/j-novel-club-announces-5-light-novel-series-for-2020-release/.165039
The first three series are already available, and the last two will be released "in a month, month and a half."
Aside from that, they announced a beta for the new JNC app.
-
@Crimson-Wise perfect, that’s just what I was looking for - I’ll give Social Game and the Cleric one a try out of this batch.
-
And there it is, Bofuri finally licensed... 2 years late but oh well.
Also surprising Yen Press snatched the Isekai Smartphone manga, Sam said it being by a Kadokawa publisher made it too expensive to bid on since they would want guaranteed printing. -
Honestly yen press is probably second for me in terms of consistency, they are pretty good these days getting books out on a 3-4 month cycle. J novel club is preferred for new licenses but yen would be second with seven seas in 3rd.
-
Seven Seas been more consistent for me, maybe cause they do digital first. They pumped out 3 Adachi volumes super fast. Yen also had a few series that got delayed volume releases multiple times, and not all Covid related (I think NGNL delays were almost a joke in that community). When Covid did happen, iirc they were one of the few to delay digital releases to time them with the physical.
-
The thing about Seven Seas is they’ll hammer out a bunch of the early volumes and then things start to stall. Yen is generally more consistent in their releases. Outside of this year there have been issues but I’d say they’re 90% consistent on schedule and I’d guess 7S is 80%, both good
-
@the-green-death I'd say Yen is consistent in incrementally delayed releases. Once something starts getting delayed it keeps getting delayed several times in succession...
