Acquisitions Speculation - General
-
I worked hard to make the hints... hard this time ;)
There's a logic to all of them however.
-
Fraction of a Galaxy? Star/Planet?
Clockwork Planet.
I am joking -
@Fezu None of the clues are for Clockwork Planet.
-
Really, the important question is if any of them will publish on Mon/Tues to fill the gap between releases...
-
@Sam-Pinansky Damn, well looking forward to whatever it leads to.
-
Hoping the long title one is Uchi no Musume no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru kamo Shirenai .
And the space one reminded I suggested Antique of the Galactic War Chronicle before, though I doubt that's it. -
Fractal?
Fractal is a never-ending pattern. So could it be a Light novels series that has been going on for a long time? Or the author has been on hiatus for a long time so the series never ends? Or maybe it is a LN that features a time loop or something?
-
@Hakomari I think in the podcast Sam did with ANN he was asked if they will pick up a long running series 20+ volumes and he said he was.
He said the series he was talking about was not Apocolyse...so could be.
-
@Rahul-Balaggan Could it be Mushoku Tensei? It will have 20+ volumes and at least one sequel series.
-
In the AMA Sam also mentioned that he was picking up an older, but popular series (link text and I know Frogkun guessed it might be Infinite Stratos). I haven't seen the anime, so I'm not sure if that fits any of the clues, but the fact that it has an anime probably helps its chances.
That link also summarized some of the other licensing stuff Sam discussed.
-
@lazyproblems The author seems to not want his series released outside of the country and the series is owned by two bunkos. One for the first few volumes then the others. Soo, I don't think it's very likely. One of them bunkos are also owned by Kadokawa.
-
@Taedirk that I can confirm!
-
@Fezu I thought Overlap got the rights to reprint the first 7 volumes?
As far as international release restriction, a quick wiki search says he was pissed that the original publisher attempted it without his permission in 2010, dunno if he is fully against the idea.
But like I said, other than a quick google search, I don't know as much about the series, so I'm unsure if any of the clues apply.
-
@lazyproblems Nah his publisher made a deal with a chinese translation company and he got mad and would take it to court if they continued to use his work. Basically it's a troubled series and not worth investing into. I'd be shocked if it'd happen considering how much stupid stuff you have to go through.
- You need to get two licenses, one for the first volumes and then from the later ones from two seperate bunkos. One of them is owned by Kadokawa.
- You need to get legal permission from the author to release them overseas aka a contractual situation with the author.
- You have to deal with licensing issues from two bunkos and an author. Yeah, I don't see it happening.
Now a fraction of a galaxy could refer to a stratossphere. But that seems silly.
-
I skimmed through the list of Overlap and Hobby Japan titles, and didn't get any flashes of inspiration for matches to the hints.
It might also be more challenging than that. A comment from Sam 25 days ago seemed to imply there was something in the works with other publishers beyond those two, which would make guessing a bit harder.
crismond said in Novel pick-up requests:
If we are requesting only from Overlap or Hobby Japan then would be the ...
Sam-Pinansky said in Novel pick-up requests:
crismond It won't be long until that's not true anymore...

The only one I could reliably decipher correctly would be "At least it's not an isekai". Which potentially could mean Rakudai license?
I do have a feeling there's going to be a bunch more bunkos getting added with these announcements.
-
@Fezu I have been desperately trying to not even think that because I can't have my hopes being dashed.
You said the one thing that could crush me.
-
@Fezu My guess is Rakudai as well. I think, that the clue refers to a LN that has elements like "sword and magic" battles which most isekai has without being an actual isekai. And Rakudai is the perfect example of that.
-
@Rahul-Balaggan To be honest as much as I want to believe in Infinite Stratos I have to everytime bring myself up to the fact that the author seems to be troublesome and the license is troublesome and I just want to not make you guys think it's possible. Because certainly from the outside looking in. That license looks like hell.
At least Rakudai seems to be a logical choice. Lots of people want it and it's actually not owned by Kadokawa but Softbank. Hint makes sense.
Fraction of a Galaxy is still the one that gets me. I don't know any Light Novels with star in the title. From Sam saying it's not Planet. I'm concluding it's most likely a star in the title.
-
At least it's not an isekai could also be "Infinite Dendrogram" as it a VRMMO LN. Kinda like an isekai but not really. Also fractals being an infinite pattern and a dendogram being a pattern of sorts could also hint at this.
