I don't think a normal adult would have an easy time accepting, or rather, internalizing the new situation. New world, new body, everything from the old life gone aside from memories that can't even be talked about. That's a lot.
If someone woke up missing a leg, forgot they missed a leg, and fell to the ground when they tried to get out of the bed, would they be an unforgivable brat for the trouble they caused?

There's a bit of a difference between your example and being that obsessed with books.

Is there? She acted like she was still Urano, in Japan, even though she wasn't.

She was literally tearing the place apart looking for something to read.

She looked around, but her family didn't go home to a crime scene.

With zero concern for how that impacted anything.
Acting just like someone in withdrawal.

But the only reason we can say she's caused big problems is that she's sickly in a poor medieval family and not healthy in a middle class family in 21st century Japan.

Now, given everything we've seen since, she does have that kind of situation going on, even if it's not a biochemical dependency.
She is that addicted to books, or close enough.

But early on there were various other actions that showed that she didn't have consideration or respect for those caring for her.

I won't argue that she gave much thought to the strangers whose midst she was thrust into, and who (unintentionally) gaslit her about her whole life, but what actions, specifically, did she take that were so heinous?

Thinking about it some more, her book obsession actually made her less of a problem. It distracted her from everything else she lost. And losing her books is a loss she can make up for - it gave her a long term goal.

Imagine she'd been more normal. What if she missed her mom, and wasn't even allowed to grieve, because of course she hasn't lost her mom, her mom is that green-haired stranger she can't help but love but doesn't remember. What if she had a boyfriend, and was about to get married? Worse, what if she was already a wife and mother? How do you deal with that kind of loss? I mean, if you wake up in a hospital bed after a car accident, your family's only survivor, at least the hospital staff around you won't deny your family ever existed and treat you as delusional if you bring them up.

The entire nation exists because of a super-anti-trombe, a plant which sprouted at the capital and extends underground feeding mana to the land - this is why the country's border is a perfect circle, as this is as far as the anti-trombe roots have grown.

This forum has really been talking about the tree for a while, huh

    Hello,

Thank you for pointing this out, and thank you Baka_Neko for pointing them in the right direction.

Just to give the full lay down like I did yesterday, I will repost what I said in the topic that appeared yesterday for this same matter.

    Hello,

Thank you for pointing this out.

Just so you are aware, each series gets its own dedicated corrections topic.

Bookworm in particular has a new one for each volume.

The corrections topic for Part 5 Volume 1 can be found here. https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/6105/corrections-bookworm-part-5-volume-1

Since bookworm has its own sub-forum the topics are in that sub-forum, and the latest one is pinned.

    https://forums.j-novel.club/category/17/ascendance-of-a-bookworm

To avoid any confusion, I will be locking this topic down.

Feel free to post in the dedicated corrections topic.

For all we know, even 7 color people were rare in the royal family except for a few select individuals in the very top portion of the family. The only confirmed individuals with 7 colors are Ferdinand and Rozemyne. Eglantine can be counted as a high probability for 7. Now we learned recently that the 2nd prince was supposed to succeed the throne, so he probably had 7 colors if the choice was based on ability and not Veronican level logic. The third prince 'probably' had 7 colors because of his progeny (Eglantine). So that means that 2/5 princes are likely to have 7 colors. We know that 1/5 of them likely didn't. That leaves 2 unknowns, the 1st and 4th prince. I won't try to make a case for or against the 1st, it seems like the competition was pretty even with the 3rd. As for the 4th prince, having 7 colors and superior mana capacity probably would have given him an edge in gathering support, so he probably doesn't have 7 colors, or at least his mana isn't superior enough that political shenanigans couldn't overshadow them.
In summary, 2/5's to 3/5's of the royal heirs (assuming no daughters who are likely all dead anyway) didn't have 7 colors. And that is only the direct blood succession. If all of those 7 color dudes had kids, less than 50% of the kids would have 7 colors if that trend continued. Now this might be sustainable if nobody was killing each other and those 7 color children all had multiple children. But the civil war killed basically all of them but Eglantine as a pre-baptised child. She might be the only 7-color royal left. We also don't know if she activated the secret passage.

I'm pretty sure that we've had it confirmed that the current king (the former fifth prince) is the half brother of the former third prince. At some point in the past I went over who I suspected the prince's mothers were, and I came to the conclusion that the Second and Third prince were most likely full siblings with a Klassenberg or Drewenchel mother, the first prince might've been their full brother, but equally likely he was a half brother with a Werkestock mother. The fourth and fifth princes may have been full brothers, or half brothers I can't be sure, but I suspect that the fourth prince was already aligned with Werkestock either through marriage or through his mother. The fifth prince's mother was most likely a love match with someone from a medial duchy.

As for other royals not the direct children of the last king, we can look at Ferdinand. He was a product of Adalgisa, and one not meant to survive either, which suggests to me that he was unimpressive by the standards there (or at the very least he was not the best). This suggests to me that the majority of those to come out of Adalgisa would posses very large mana capacities, all seven elements, or both.

For ACs from greater duchies, we can assume that they pretty much always have at least six elements, since even two generations removed from an unimpressive AC by greater duchy standards, Wilfried still has two more affinities than Cornelius despite that being their largest difference in lineage.

@Ineluki said in Name-giving and what we know of the HB bible:

Yes, yes, the activation worthiness code. I'm thinking the shumils acquire loyalty with mana added to them, and once they get the right amount they bring their chosen librarian to the Mestianora statue to charge the book, but only if there is no true Zent. That activates the Zent summon protocol, which requires 7 elements and some minimum level of excessive mana and allows eligible candidates to see the popped out letters IF they have permission to read the HB bible AND their High Bishop also meets the prerequisites... Fat chance that would happen, since most of the duchies fail at providing worthy blue priests...

Given what we've learned about how the competition for Zent has changed over the history of Yogurt land, I imagine that the Zent instructions in the bible were a standard part of the succession for some early portion of yogurt history. If that's the case it would make a lot more sense if the instructions were either an always on or opt-in type of thing. In the case that they're an always on type of thing, then the Mestionora statue being the center of that system and having simply run dry would make a lot of sense. If it's more of an opt in type of thing, maybe giving the Mestionora statue a certain minimum of mana is the opt in process and Ferdinand somehow did it while he was in school (IIRC the second floor is where research results are kept so he at least has a reason to have been there)

@kurosov idk while again i'm with you and think charlotte would make a better aub the reason i said that was because of dunkelfelgr's aub and how he is seemingly led by his wife.
while willfred isn't very good with politics, he is charismatic and seems to rally the boys around him, couple that with his mana capacity and while yes he's sub optimal he's still usable so long as you give him a first wife that can hold him on a short leash

The best of Bookworm’s best when it comes to color inserts has been determined: P4V9! I’m amazed that You Shiina could do two renditions of the same scene and give them such different vibes between the cover and color insert. There’s a solemness and quietness in this one that is just lovely, it really feels like a farewell. But surely we’ll see you again someday, Ferdie! Look forward to whatever our dear bookworm gremlin does while you’re away!

To all of you who voted: thank you! Whether you only dropped in every now and again or voted every single week, without you, “Best of Bookworm” would have been a string of posts where I just list off my favorite bits of Bookworm, and that would be far less interesting than what we got here.

And to round things off, here's some fun (statistical) facts about the polls :D

The best of Bookworm’s best when it comes to covers has been determined: P4V9! Truly a gorgeous piece of art from You Shiina – though I wonder, how would it have fared against P5V1 now that we’ve seen it? Hmm, maybe I should do another round of polls when we finish the series… But that’s a long ways away. Regardless, I look forward to seeing all of the covers still to come!

The best of Bookworm's best when it comes to volumes has been determined: P4V2! This volume's results surprised me the most, winning the volume poll and even getting to the finals in the cover poll - it seems to be a very beloved volume. There's always something to enjoy in a volume of Bookworm, but it was our first ditter fight over fluffy goodness that took the cake! Perhaps there are some Rauffen's and Lieseleta's out there among the Bookworm forum-goers...

Sure; just thinking out loud - if blood is acceptable because it contains their mana, then presumably any fluid that contains their mana (maybe even potions?) would do.

Thinking however that most fluids made using mana don't actually contain mana as such - mana ink is an obvious exception, and is what nobles use instead of blood in contracts normally.

Most nobles wouldn't have a supply of mana-saturated ink just lying around though - they usually make it (using stylo) as they need it, and then immediately use it.

by implication though - that could make filling a feystone with mana and giving that to someone incredibly dangerous - they just need to push that mana out into a liquid, and they can then "sign" that contract using any old pen... and it will be binding on the person whose mana it is.

@15-Redstones-776rtbk said in Your security is kinda bad:

@DaveHowe which is exactly why I'd prefer to have a more complex system where everyone can only open the doors they're supposed to. There is no reason why Egmont and his attendants should be able to open the servant doors to Rozemyne's chambers.
Think of a unix file system where certain files can only be accessed by specific groups of users.
Different key cards for each user is something the merchant guild system already has, although they use it for transactions rather than to control door access.

It's not impossible; it would require significant work and expense to set up... but wouldn't require any cards.

Instead, like the bible, the magic tool protecting each room could allow its owner to grant or remove permission to/from named individuals thus selecting who can or can't open the doors when they are closed. They would require mana of course, but that's not a big deal as the owners would invariably be at least blue priests.

Leaving aside the complexity and expense for now, it wouldn't have helped in the Count Bindewald case; the attacker had been escorted to the HB's chambers quite legitimately, and was being walked back to the exit when they encountered Myne.

In the case of Egmont, then the bookroom incident would still have happened (he was authorized there) but for the bible incident, they would have needed to find some way to prevent the door being closed properly while her attendants were delivering divine gifts, trick/force someone authorized into opening the door for them, or override the system. The middle one there would have been the most obvious - while they didn't expect anyone to miss the grey priests from the gate, one of Rozemyne's own attendants going missing would have been a different story.

This is all overkill though. Just having the main doors to the chambers bolt shut from the inside, plus a heavy metal physical lock on the attendant's entrance (only locked when the chambers are going to be empty) would be good enough for almost all circumstances, and I suspect the former already exists (or Eckhart wouldn't have had to chop down Egmont's door to gain entry)

Given the Temple can't even manage magic tools to bring water for bathing, I don't think a complex magic solution is going to be the way to go here.

I really liked the the ninth volume cover in this part and who was hiding behind the title card plus how stunning it was. Took me awhile to realize Ferdinand was actually still kneeling from the insert color image from this volume. Below is an item that arrived today and I'd say it makes me adore this cover more than most. Plus I like how P4V9 is complimented by Drama CD4's artwork (No Title Card).

Caster Rozemyne's line is from the time where she was Crushing the exHB and noting that since he was prepared to order the deaths of her family, he himself must be prepared to die as well.
