    Imma try to string together a possibility that Rozemyne arguably should have done after the cousin tea party.

    "Aub Ehrenfest, our tea party with Deltine has revealed that she wishes to stand out by means of filling feystones with mana during the graduation dedication whirl. As with the Hazendel miracle; ceremonies and mana produce unexpected results. We have attempted to dissuade her from attempting this but she adamantly wants attention." - Rozemyne

    At last graduation ceremony Rozemyne saw a magic circle on the whirling stage & we have no clue if Ferdinand gave Sylvester any heads up about what might happen with that. But if not it can be argued Rozemyne did the right thing to not warn her alies of ... forbidden? knowledge to avoid further suspicion.

    I think competition between commoner merchants would be a better way to drive papermaking forward than nobles interfering, but would other merchants actually dare to compete with the Plantin Company?
    Myne would probably appreciate other commoner merchants taking initiative towards making more paper at lower cost, so she wouldn't interfere even if they caused Benno some work, but the Ehrenfest merchants have no way of knowing that. As far as any merchant not affiliated with pre-adoption Myne knows, getting into the paper business in Plantin Companys home turf might be extremely dangerous.

    There was also the lil snippets way back about her not knowing enough financial knowledge to shift to a publicly traded company. Nearly all financial talk has been done in a down to earth individual way instead of country(world) spanning impossible choices. We're getting hints but so far good ole gremlin rampages have only heavily impacted Ehrenfest and those already doing heavy trade with them...

    I think the Fandom can expand & further flesh out nearly every aspect to make this fictional universe up there with Tolkien's works or the star wars universe... but an individual got limits unless they isekai'd

    @saffire Well, if you insist:

    P3 Egmont:

    “She got pregnant,” Brother Egmont said tersely, looking down at Lily with a disgusted grimace. “She’s been whining about feeling sick for days, and now she’s throwing up everywhere. I’ve never seen an attendant this useless in my life.”

    and P4 Egmont:

    On closer inspection, the two figures on the bench were actually Egmont and a shrine maiden, and they had clearly been engaged in something quite indecent.
    ...
    Meanwhile, Ferdinand gave both Egmont and the girl now scrambling to cover herself up cold stares.

    @DaveHowe Yes, this is pretty much what I meant. The spells and the rest are great and all, but treating them as the end-all-be-all rather than aids is part of how how they got into this mess. If they kept the prayers always in mind, they would continue to improve better in all the other aspects.

    @strangeattractor I don't think we've ever had a delay in the bookworm schedule where we were weren't notified in advance of the normal release time. No news is good news for this series.

    @Soul47 said in Part 5 Volume 1 cliffhanger chapter.:

    So, I just finished part 7 of 8 for the subscription preview. I know that part 8th should release next week, but was wondering if it will just contain the epilogue and side stories. Is Replies the last chapter of the main story for this volume?

    Note: Up until part 5 I’ve been reading the series on kindle.

    We will never find out; the web site will go down permanently due to the massive number of requests received at the same time...that being when the pre-pub section is scheduled for release.

    @bf3ubvf And as I've previously stated, "possible" is not a high enough bar. Until such time as new information arises that moves your "possible" to "probable," what I have suggested is concrete enough that any position you argue cannot contradict them without also very probably contradicting the narrative canon.

    Err, demonstrating whether an analysis is wrong or not is pretty easily provable. It's as simple as literally waiting for the rest of the translations to come out and see what happens. Whatever rationale either of us have behind our analyses, the only one's opinion who matters is Kazuki-sensei. What she says goes by authorial fiat. For example, if she literally goes and says, "commoners in Yurgenschmidt cannot survive without nobles," it wouldn't matter how much virtual ink you spill about "possible" alternatives, those alternatives, even in aggregate, are automatically inadequate, and no prediction of what might happen in the future canon can hinge on any of them actually succeeding.

    At this point I'm pretty sure you're not realizing this, but your argument about promotion of a differing mindset is sort of a net zero result in the Bookverse. Someone is always not on the top spot and striving to get up there. Who that someone is, and who that someone else who is in the top spot barely registers much of a difference. For your Klassenberg archducal candidate that was raised seeking the top spot, you have a Drewanchel archducal candidate that was raised in the top spot. The haves and have nots remain present in either scenario, as does the drive and innovation that comes from the resulting competition. A competition that is inherent. On the other hand, there is no inherent need for a particular duchy to be the contender versus the incumbent.

    You-you think that Raublut only has Hildebrand to work with? Wow, you completely missed the allusion Kazuki-sensei gave us last volume. Ferdinand noted that Raublut was very possibly stationed at the palace of Adalgisa. Think about what that means. Ferdinand, by virtue of being a survivor of said palace, is of royal descent and meets the qualifications to be set on the zent path. Raublut's actions are very clearly not intended to help one of the extant royal family members we're aware of succeed in obtaining Grutrissheit and becoming a proper zent. The only question was who else could he possibly be fronting for. If Raublut really was stationed at the palace like Ferdinand suggests, that would mean he would have had access to potentially every other royal-descended child born in that palace. We know Ferdinand survived to leave. Who else could have survived that Raublut might have connections with?

    On top of that, in purely practical terms even if such an alternate candidate obtained Grutrissheit the surviving greater duchies might not accept such a person as zent without a fight, so the only way for such a coup to succeed is if said greater duchies are sufficiently weakened beforehand that they are forced to accept. And said duchies are far, far from that point. So if Raublut really is plotting a replacement of the current royal family, a requisite step beforehand would be to try to cripple the three top greater duchies to something like Ahrensbach level. So, yes, Raublut at present probably constitutes the second biggest threat that we know of thus far, right after the wholesale collapse of the country from lack of a Grutrissheit-possessing zent.

    I'm pretty sure that Myne eyes shone like rainbows while she was crushing Bazenwast. That probably means that she already had all the colours.

    You know what, that sounds extremely good. Blessing bomb. Perhaps the ideal middle ground. Will explore this avenue.

    And with that said this topic will now come to a close.

    So, the summary after the first day of voting:

    Eglantine's stalling pre-Rozemyne was a good choice based on the information available to Eglantine (10-6), but not according to the information available to us (6-10).

    Eglantine's marriage to Anastasius was a good choice based on the information available to Eglantine (13-3) and to us (12-4), and would have remained so even if Rozemyne hadn't given Eglantine that public blessing (12-3).

    The images that were posted in Amazon with the Part 4 Volume 8 book are the P4V9 pictures. Not sure where else to post the error, but the graphics sort of tell what is going to happen.... I will also email this to the above mentioned addresses.

    @TheGrimLich I want to say all the way back in P1 there was mention of some instrument used by minstrels that wasn't a harspiel and sounded like it might be lute-like, but I could just be imagining things.

    @Thecardq said in Name swearing:

    @Geezer-Weasalopes said in Name swearing:

    This hasn't been discussed in-story, true, but has there been any circumstances where such discussion would be justified?

    If remaking a name stone were something reasonably achievable, then I doubt Georgine would've accepted Mattias's excuse about not wanting his growth hindered by his stone.

    On the other hand, even if it were a not-so-hard thing to do, to shift from one name-stone to another would seem to require a period where your name had been returned to you so that you could then offer up the snazier name-stone.
    Given what all Georgine is up to, I suspect she would consider that an unacceptable security risk.
    Once she has someone's name, she uses them for stuff that she really doesn't want reported to Aub Ehrenfest.
    Releasing them for any amount of time carries the risk of their having decided they want out.
    So better to hold off a bit if it looks like they'll still willingly give her their name in the end.

    My impression hadn't been that his growth would be hindered, but rather that he hadn't gathered ingredients of a quality to allow her to take proper advantage of his mana's full potential; for that understanding to be correct does seem to indicate that the one who has received the name-stone can in some manner draw upon the mana of the giver, that more is involved than just having control of a sort over the individual, but also the ability to draw upon the mana associated with them. If the quality of the stone, or the abilities at the time it is made can limit what can be siphoned off, that's justification for holding off in some cases.

    @Awwkaw Even earlier than that, actually - the letter of introduction Myne handles when Gunther and Otto are in a meeting refers to Barons Blon and Glaz!

    But hey, we all forget stuff sometimes. There's a lot to remember in this series...

    This technically isn't any kind of error, but in the past, British idioms have been replaced by the American ones so I thought I would point one out. In the Viscount Dahldof's Estate chapter it starts out: "I had been champing at the bit..." It's far more common in American English to say "I had been chomping at the bit..."
