Finding Purpose and the Guardians of Knowledge

“The aub called for me and said that, once matters settled down, he would introduce me to the third prince.
He granted me permission to mourn Prince Waldifrid and spend my days quietly cleaning his villa while the first and third princes fought.”

The highlighted part of the original text is missing from the translation, which adds critical information that "Prince Waldifrid and third prince are brothers from the same mother".

@Galois Do keep in mind that the majority of commoners are medal registered, such that the archducal family could, if they so desired, wipe out entire cities if they so desired.

In addition to which, the devouring soldiers are even more susceptible to remote controlled termination, since the holder of their enslavement contract can kill them, not just a member of the archducal family.

@DaveHowe I think I recall hearing (Trash Tier Waifu) that dead nobles become feystones. Maybe it is at a certain point of time or during body decomposition. But I think this is also mentioned in the fanbook discussing the magic tool Felien(sp?) Bought back through Rozemyne as a heirloom. The feystone was from her mother.

    FB3 -

The body disappears after the funeral, when the blue priests take the person’s feystone. Only their belongings and their feystone get buried—although the person’s feystone is sometimes used instead.

@Awwkaw yep. Tuuli at end of the summer, Freida at the end of the next winter (after RA year 4), then immediately followed by Kamil's baptism at the beginning of spring. Then the end of next summer Lutz.
It's possible that there'll be another opportunity to bless Tuuli and Lutz the year after that, which is planned to be Rozemyne's final year as HB.

@Axehand said in about the bible:

@DaveHowe If you want to go down that road, the Gutenberg Bible was in Greek and Latin during a time when translation was very much in flux. If you assume that Urano was aware of the history, then you have to assume she was aware of all the history. And there are a great many different, wildly diverging versions of the text. Quite a few people got murdered over that.

And yet, that is ALSO what we see ,hence Myne making differential records of what is or isn't in a given release of the Bible, and translating it from the ancient text form to modern child-friendly books....

But this gets into religion, which will and has caused butt-hurt even within this forum, so no point in going further.

Not wrong, but I think we can abstract this away from which school of religious belief a given bible belongs to, to the important place the Gutenberg Bible plays in printing history. That avoids us having to place any weight on Urano's own religious beliefs (or lack of them)

Having actually read Goethe’s Faust in undergrad, wherein the arrangement between Faust and the devil is actually not a deal but a wager (the devil takes them on a journey and provides Faust with all manner of temptations, and if Faust ever says he is satisfied then his soul is forfeit)…that actually kind of tracks; Rozemyne keeps moving forward because she is not satisfied, she must have more books, more things that improve the world around her, hell she became the orphanage director because she was unsatisfied with the way the orphans were treated

Much knowledge would be gained if Ferdinand had some more scientific curiosity, and Rozemyne asked Johann and Lutz for some different metals and some potatoffels to create potato batteries.
It certainly wouldn't provide enough power to be useful for anything, but it could be enough for some simple experiments. Not sure how they'd measure voltage. My knowledge of such batteries is limited to Portal 2 dialogue, but @Justaidan might know more about whether it'd work.

@kuali said in Bookworm Part 5 Vol. 3 Discussion!:

It will cost me mana or political capital to get out of this is about as binding as most things get in-universe.

That's a fair assessment. It's a difference in degree, not in kind.

Refusing to oblige Wilfried's commitments would cost less political capital than going back on his own commitments- but either one costs more than Sylvester has, because Sylvester has none to spare.

@kuali said in Bookworm Part 5 Vol. 3 Discussion!:

By the looks of it, Veronica actually does not have that reputation, even though she was far more guilty of it than Sylvester is. Very few people seem to be recognising who Fernestine is...

Very few people, meaning exactly zero outside of Ehrenfest, I think. I'm pretty sure even Ferdinand himself doesn't know (because he hasn't read it yet).

Veronica's reputation seems to have survived intact, yes. Sylvester is getting the bad reputation that Veronica deserves.

Those who were pushing for Ferdinand to marry out of Ehrenfest did know that he was forced into the temple, but not necessarily all knew it was by Veronica (and not by Sylvester's father). They also failed to realize that Sylvester inviting Ferdinand come with him to the archduke conference implied that Sylvester wasn't continuing Veronica's policies. I think that was some motivated reasoning on the part of Ahrensbach, combined with Sylvester not having anyone willing to listen to his side of the story (no political capital; Sylvester is a bad politician; yadda-yadda).

For no particular reason was thinking about Bookverse currency today. We know that at the Academy they still talk about things costing golds and whatnot. One presumes that currency between duchies interoperate fairly seamlessly. But, IIRC the lowest denomination in Ehr is a Lion, otherwise known as the "state" animal. Does Ahrensbach have Copper Dolphins? Does Glissenmeyer have Copper Cows? 8-) A question for a fanbook if the anglophone fans ever get to ask. 8-)

So does that mean that when Rozemyne accidentally conquers Yurgenschmidt, they're going to switch to copper/silver/gold gruns red pandas in the Sovereignty?

I personally think Raublut's message to Hildebrand was an attempt to use the young prince more as an intelligence gathering asset and less of a play to elevate Hildebrand himself.
