@drone205 the “available now” for the coming soon section refers to other ebook platforms such as kindle and nook, when you look at the latest e-books section in the center screen that will help inform when the premium becomes available.

Also they manually get added, there is a time zone release function but they still have to be manually uploaded.

Ditto for me along with the others using calibre, but I just copy them to the documents directory on my kindle over USB instead of mailing them to it.

I agree that the first full volume should remain available to subscribers (rather than the first part of each volume), because it's the best way to get somebody hooked on a series. If we ignore catchup, there isn't necessarily much value to a subscription for new members, as most series are ongoing and there are few series that a new subscriber can start on without buying the individual volumes. Providing the first volume of each series gives new subscribers a large variety of content to start with, and encourages them to become committed to a new series, which may entice them to buy further volumes to catch up.

This approach has worked well for Baen, a sci-fi publisher who was in many ways one of the original pioneers of modern ebooks due to the foresight of the late Jim Baen. For many years they've operated the "Baen Free Library" which makes available the first novel in many series (http://www.baen.com/categories/free-library.html). It's how I got started on a bunch of Baen series, such as the Honor Harrington series, some of which I would probably never have started if I didn't have a chance to read the first book in a series and say "Hey, I really liked that, I want more of it."

This strategy has worked well enough for Baen that they continue to offer the Free Library roughly 19 years after they launched it.

@paul-nebeling yeah, I mainly had audible on the mind when thinking of the monthly credit stuff, they have a system that only charges you once every 2 month for your credit. While you do make a valid point in just downgrading, I actually don't actually utilize the ongoing translation stuff, so at that point I would probably just unsub completely.

I'm basically just subbing just to get a bit of money off each LN purchase with no drm at this point, which I guess would be more of a byproduct than their sole intention. So I guess I'll just buy the volumes once they're done and at my own pace. Seems like I just imprinted audible's system and transferred my habits without even thinking about it.

It still might be worth mentioning out loud anyways, even if it's a bit convoluted. Data from a dummy is still data in the end, lol. And it's not like I'm complaining either, it was just one of those "oh, why don't they do-yaddayadda" things and then the answer is just "oh well, credits is just a perk, ongoing translations is the business" which totally flew over my head for a hot minute. But yeah, thank you and @paulnamida for the reply.

What I do is read check out the preview of the books I’ve read on Amazon. It includes the translated images at the beginning, and it’s free!

@sam-pinansky Kind of figured it may have been you, but wasn't sure. You're profile on this site, mentioning super string theory, and a username like quarkboy, in conjunction with a knowledge of the business side of this site, did have some interesting clues.

There's other workarounds for the prepubs too. Turn on Shake to Speak setting in your TalkBack setting on Android. Download a TTS extension for Google Chrome on the PC. Use the Microsoft Store unofficial app for Windows Devices someone posted that has a play straight through function.

But I would definitely love some kind of official text to speech functionality (with a pause and rewind function especially, but if that's too difficult, so be it).

I absolutely need this for Bookwalker light novels too since those have no work around to have them read to me (I mention this every time I take a survey there).
