Most hoped for new licenses in 2023
-
Hey everyone, it's the first day of 2023 and ahead of us are an entire year of new licensing announcements, so I thought it would be fun if we discussed what are the series we would most like to see licensed in this coming year of 2023
-
Here is the stuff I would most like to see licensed in 2023:
To quote @Torka, who I thanks for sharing the existence of this light novel “Thoughts: …do I really need to say it? It’s a light novel about a buff Marie Antoinette. The second volume has her get into a bodybuilding match with Napoleon. How could I NOT recommend this?”
-
@Lily-Garden Thank you for reminding me that that last one exists. JNC needs to license it so they can have a monopoly on Japanese Light Novels starring Marie Antoinette and Marie Antoinette-alikes.

80,000 Gold rescue -- I just saw the anime is on CR's winter simulcast schedule, so could someone send Hired Goons and/or lawyers to bludgeon the Sol Press owner into returning the rights? *
* not really advocating bodily harm. Possibly. Maybe?
Second choice is an old LN with probably no market potential: Maoyū: Maō Yūsha

Kodansha declared that they were going to do the english release themselves for 80K Gold.
So... already technically done.

Kodansha, not Kadokawa, but yeah, it's already resqued. Though recent Kodansha LNs are weird with their digital availability (they are on Bookwalker, but not on Amazon or Kobo for some reason).
Spring 2023 sees the release of all-new-in-English manga series like the yakuza/idol rom-com, The Yakuza’s Bias; more exciting light novels like the isekai comedy, 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement; as well as digital-first series coming to to print, including A Condition Called Love, The Great Cleric, Twilight Out of Focus, and more.

@Wellwisher Kadokawa, Kodansha, too many Japanese publishers starting with "K" for me to keep all their names straight...
As for me, my list is just "At least one or two series that interest me."
Which is both a surprisingly tall order and a dificualt to quantify one...
-
I have my wishlist as usual. I hope something from my Top 10 gets licensed this year. I typically get 1 title a year from my Top 25.
Top 3
Top 10
- Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest Eternal Artifact
- Campione!
- Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri
- Hiota no Kanojo ga Ore no Motteru Eroge ni Kyoumi Shinshin Nanda ga......
- Isekai de Skill wo Kaitai shitara Cheat na Yome ga Zoushoku Shimashita: Gainen Kousa no Structure
- Kono Sekai ga Game da to Ore dake ga Shitteiru
- Seichou Cheat de Nandemo Dekiru you ni Natta ga, Mushoku dake wa Yamerarenai you desu
-
@Aruseus493 I'm rooting for gamers and campione!
Though with license rescues, hoping for chivalry of the failed knight and hidan no aria being licensed as well
-
Hmm, that would be my wishes for 2023:
1). Parallel World Pharmacy (Light Novel)
2). Parallel World Pharmacy (Manga)
Only if J-Novel Club licenses the manga, since I want to buy the premium ebooks. I don‘t buy English manga in print format, because they are way to expensive... In this case I unfortunately need to wait and hope for a German release.
3). Death‘s Daughter and the Ebony Blade (Manga)
Same as the Parallel World Pharmacy manga.
4). Fake Cinderella (Light Novel)
5). Fake Cinderella (Manga)
Same as the Parallel World Pharmacy and Death‘s Daughter and the Ebony Blade manga.

Somebody please license Bocchi the Rock, thank you.
Otherwise, these days I always have something to read, although I'll always appreciate a license for Humanity has Declined and OreShura.
-
@Crimson-Wise Wow no one has made a request thread for Bocchi yet? Damn. You'd think it would be a high-priority license for all the publishers at the moment.

I certainly hope so. I don't expect JNC to get it, since it doesn't seem like the kind of things they license. I'd love to be wrong though, the more Kirara, the better.
-
@Lily-Garden I forgot to add Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival

I want this.
I've wanted this for some time now. -
My most hoped for license is Isekai Yururi Kikou (Raising Children While Being an Adventurer). It's unfortunately not terribly realistic due to the fact it's an alpha polis title. I'll still push for it, if there ends up being only a single license from that company that anyone can get that's the one I want.
For more realistic options, I'm Not Even an Otome Game Mob Character from To Books looks interesting. It's a short 2 volume series, so maybe it can be brought in as a bonus with something else.
Mangawise, I'd love if Nukoduke! could be picked up, the problem is it's both manga, and it's a high volume series from a publisher JNC doesn't currently do business with.
-
I'm still holding out hope that someone will pick up Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?(And You Thought There is Never a Girl Online?), how vain that hope may be...
-
I think the main thing I'm hopeful for is JNC continuing their streak of romcom licenses that they had this year. Other than that, here are some of the individual series I'd love to see:
I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in Class
I Was Caught up in a Hero Summoning, but That World Is at Peace
I Know That After School, The Saint is More Than Just Noble
-
I'm gonna jump on the Gamers! bandwagon and throw in my standard request of Eromanga Sensei.
-

I’d like to see any Harunohi titles licensed because they’re just crazy.
Otome Game Heroine is my favourite but I’d especially like to see Demon Noble Girl because the fantranslation halted part way into Vol 9 of 12.
