I went to the movie theater last night for Ponyo.
I really love the animation in this one (and the Joe Hasishi music, especially the opening theme that plays with the Jellyfish scene). Bubbles, Jellyfish, ocean waves, man, those are my favorite things to see in animation.
The run time is like 1 HR and 44 Min, but it feels much shorter to me. The only part that really drags / I don't like is the "Milk" scene (I'm guessing there's some deeper meaning to Ponyo's quizzical expressions towards the woman and her child, like her learning about humanity, but those characters overall are pretty insignificant and not worth wasting time on). The ending is a bit quick. I would have liked to have seen
Why does Sosuke call his mom Lisa? Is that normal in Japan? Iirc, Ponyo calls her mom "Kassan / O'Kassan" for mother. The person I went with was curious about that.
Theatre was fairly empty. I hope the other showings get more foot traffic (it was a a Monday night).

Adult Swim tonight is all Japanese audio with English subtitles...
Honestly, I'd take this joke any day of the week. =P
They showed the first of the new FLCL. Now they're showing Mind Game.
Edit: Anyone know if there will be an easy way to catch up with this stuff tomorrow online? I guess I can set some recordings before bed.

Darling in the FranXX (mostly for the not-garbage mechas).
-
@galactuskahn24 Watching that too. Starting to get really interesting.
-
Damn. It's a new season already.
Do we need to make a new anime thread?I'm kinda happy since there are a couple of new mecha series.
-
I feel like I need to start Steins;Gate Zero again to stay ahead of anime spoilers. T.T
-
I remember I use to not like mecha. Now it’s probably one of my favorite genres for anime.
-
@paul-nebeling especially that last episode.
-
I just went down a nostalgia trip with Captain Tsubasa, I feel like a 4 year old. And I'm loving it!
-
Finished season 2 of Overlord today and started the new LoGH. I'll be surprised if this one doesn't turn out being my favorite of the spring season shows. Also planning on watching Cutie Honey Universe, Doreiku, and SAO:GGO.
-
My gut feeling tells me that Juushinki Pandora will be bad. But I guess I'll check it out nevertheless.
-
@paulnamida MAL says that Viz has licensed Captain Tsubasa, but it doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere. Does anyone know why that is? (Also wish David Productions would work on Jojo Part 5 and not some soccer anime, but oh well).
I watched the first episode of the new LOGH yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. Will be continuing.
Saw the first episode of Real Girl, and idk, it was really awkward, I might drop it.
Of course I’ll be watching MHA, and S;G 0, especially since Steins;Gate is my favorite show of all time. -
Since I've been reading a triangle romance Visual Novel, I decided to also pick up Love and Lies again.
It's decent, though a lot of the romantic backstory for our main characters is silly (Nejima giving Misaki an Eraser as the moment they fell in love; him cooking hot cakes as this super attractive quality to her), but yeah, it's fun, and it still seems unpredictable at this point (besides me thinking the gal who is on the first cover of the sequel manga probably has a leg up).
I did skip one episode, the one where Nejima and his wife candidate Ririna went to some training seminar and were
Don't spoil me, but obviously I'm wondering about Nejima's buddy's sexual identity.
Anything romantic this season that isn't based on an LN? Real Girl seems like it'll be one I'll have to keep track of.
That Pretty Derby seems like the most Moe waste of time, but let me know if anything real develops.
-
@terrence Tada Doesn’t Fall in Love seems like something worth watching, and it’s original. Comes out on HiDive tomorrow I believe.
-
Oh God. Love and Lies anime ending is
-
@terrence Yeah, it's being simulpubbed on MangaBox iirc, they have the latest 2-3 chapters of all their series available for free, then I think you need a subscription to read the backlog.
-
Here's another romance one I might look into.
And maybe Pretty Derby (the equestrian school idol one) will go Yuri? IDK.
-

I loved the manga of that one. Where is it streaming on? Doesn't seem to be on Crunchyroll, unless I'm region screwed again.
-
I started watching "Hinamatsuri".
I've only read a couple chapters of the manga and studio Feel adapted it quite well.
But man, Crunchyroll took such a slow while to release it. It finally came out subbed in the app at 2:30 AM in the morning.

The first episode of Megalobox was awesome. The aesthetic and animation is very nostalgic and beautiful, and anyone would enjoy it, even if you don’t like boxing. I hadn’t been expecting to follow it going into the season, but I definitely will now.
My only complaint was that the video CrunchyRoll had seemed very blurry or DVD quality, though it seems that might have been deliberate.
