Definitely a tough one and realistically I hate to admit it should probably stay as it is to reach the widest audience. Also funny that the original post for the topic clearly meant suffix and omitted the vowels and extra f, but chose sfx which obviously has its own meaning and totally changed the direction of the discussion.

But 'on topic', personally I would prefer titles, honorifics, etc. to be expressed with a semblance of their original form because it is difficult to always translate the meaning into English well--and therefore more meaning is preserved with them; however, as indicated by @myskaros, it's true that prior knowledge is required to appropriately make sense of them and there is absolutely no consistency in available prior knowledge. As such, I can only appreciate the efforts to make translations make sense for the widest variety of readers. If new people can't get into the novels because there is too much "jargon", it only hurts everyone who wants to read them in English.

As far as sound effects are concerned, I've gotta say that @liz pretty much nailed it. (Which is good since (s)he is a member of the translators group). Although, you could always do both with the rain example? ...Leave the sfx and also include something like "...the sound of heavy rain could be heard pelting the ground..." in order to both maintain the author's original intent, building the scene in a way that is more flexibly interpreted, and also help to introduce (or reinforce) the reader's knowledge of typical sfx selections in Japan.

Anyway, not sure why I bothered to write so much--just got into rambling... but figured it'd be nice to chime in on the conversation.

@jaon Thanks for the acknowledgement and confirmation that improvements are coming!

@Paul-Nebeling Sorry, I didn't mean to downplay your insight/suggestion at all, I kind of got carried away in my reply. I agree with you on all fronts!

@sam-pinansky I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (mainly to read prepubs from here and books on Bookwalker) and can confirm it has an issue with images loading in the app. Let me know if there's any diagnostics or tests I can do to help.

@rahul-balaggan ouch. Yen-Press still doesn't have license for it? Anyway, seeing my favorite novels here (Realist Hero, Clockwork Planet, Blusteel & etc), I will hope for the best.

@shiroi-hane beside big boobs, harem and guns, story is quite good too, characters are well developed and MC's wives are dere-dere, instead of annoying tsun-tsun (at least for the 98 chapters of the Web Novel). Although MC can make guns, he isn't OP and doesn't have a cakewalk in that fantasy world like a Duke Nukem in New-York, there are a lot of times when he has to struggle to survive and do his best to protect people he cherishes. And by looking at currently released manga chapters, I can say that Light Novel is much more polished then Web Novel.

In the header I appear logged in, but the web says I need to subscribe to read.
Logging out and back was the solution.

    Thanks!

I use calibre to convert the epub into mobi. You could also send it to the kindle conversion service from amazon. Maybe this would work for you better. They will sen you the file either over WiFi or with 3g over the cellular phone.

But for the first two points. I am 100% for this. Kinda bugs me that I can not read my ebooks directly from the official app. Also it is a lil rudimentar function wise.

I like the DRM Free option since other readers have a feature I want that J-Novel Club doesn't offer (text to speech).

I would love if they added text to speech for prepubs through the app tho (If you have an extension for Google Chrome, you can have the books read to you on the desktop browser, but I haven't found a similar extension for mobile browser).

@omoikane said in App: prevent screen turning off:

@sam-pinansky I was thinking the same thing. As well as maybe a brightness adjustor.

If the dev team chooses to add a brightness adjustment option within the reader, please also add an enable toggle so I am free to use the system's brightness as default instead of the app adjustment bar.

Did you maybe accidentally hit the triangle in the menu bar? That one changes the app from
paginated to scrolling and vice versa.

The primary benefit of Premium Membership is getting discounts on the premium ebook credits.
Free trials are only for normal memberships, so if people buy credits during them they pay full retail price.

It's not really my intention to lock people out of getting the premium ebooks and bonus stuff unless they are actively subscribing to premium, as everyone has their own financial situation. The free trial loophole is fine. If you think that's unfair to you as a premium member, remember that they're paying more for those credits and not able to read any weekly releases.

I've thought of a few other perks for premium subscribers in the future... maybe like a custom member's card for people that've been premium for a full year, or something.
But trying to make a digital product like short stories or bonus illustrations a "limited" item is a fool's errand and would only encourage their piracy and lower our sales overall.

Eventually I believe we will implement a full store, and in that store perhaps the premium editions will be slightly higher priced. But it's not something I'm going to focus on too soon. Practically Premium Credit sales are still only <5% of total ebook sales. Right now focusing on increasing subscribers and overall name recognition is more effective use of resources.
