@pcj said in Would JNC be interested in publishing original light novel-style books?:

I've seen quite a few of these on Amazon Kindle, usually direct-published there by the author.

I have to poke around a bit more if that's the case. I knew these types of books did exist, but I admit I haven't looked much into it. I feel like self publishing won't get me anywhere. It's something I have to decide if I really want to pursue or not (you know, sunken cost fallacy and all that).

@myskaros said in Would JNC be interested in publishing original light novel-style books?:

@TriteHexagon As pcj guessed, we are primarily a translation company and we're not looking to expand into traditional publishing at the moment.

I assumed that was the case, but thanks for letting me know. That said, if you ever change your mind feel free to contact me ;)

    Hello,

Wortenia is currently on an extended break.

Please refer to the translator’s post for more information: https://forums.j-novel.club/post/97921

As of right now there is no set date for V9 to start pre-publication, your patience is appreciated.

@pcj Ah yes thanks for reminding me. I forgot how email attachments work. I guess in a hypothetical system to send MOBIs, you'd have to just keep downscaling the images until you get to a resolution that's under ~37MB

Man, that was a fun show. Good vybes all around from watching it: I really hope they take jab at the novels.

I heard "The Irresponsible Galaxy Tylor" is also based on the novels, but my heart sunk watching that (what the hell was that anyway?).

Thank you for all of the responses.
But to expound on a couple of items:

I never said anything about any j-novel employee, my comments are directed at the company and it’s management that bear the responsibility for the operation of the company. The people doing the “front line “ work are either usually hourly or contract employees. It is the company that decides how many people to hire and how many to assign to a project, how to staff departments, and what backup plans to implement when something goes wrong.

It’s fine that j-novel is in an industry where people can be so patient and forgiving, but most of us work at companies where there is intense domestic and foreign competition And struggle to make it from quarter to quarter.

Most companies have customers that require adherence to deadlines. I’ve never heard one of our customers say that it was OK to be “a little late”. In fact, if we’re late we lose money and people get laid off or fired. In addition, peoples lives and livelihoods depend on us doing our job correctly...and on time.

So, in retrospect, a COMPANY’s number one obligation is to shareholders and investors (the ones who actually own the company), the second responsibility is to the employees (the ones doing the work and who need support), and the third obligation is to it’s customers (the ones who keep everyone employed). The third area is where j-novel needs to improve. So, I’m sorry if some of you take offense, but if companies don’t get constructive criticism and told where they need to improve, they’ll never do it. Also if they don’t have competition, they get stagnant and don’t improve. Remember how crappy American made cars were getting before the Japanese auto industry started “invading” the US with their well made and RELIABLE vehicles. There was even talk of American car companies going out of business due to the competition.

Companies need to be told how and where to improve or they will never do it and will ultimately fail.

I like j-Novel; I look forward to their releases; I don’t want them to fail and go out of business.

    But you gotta get better...
Others will see the opportunity and take it and compete against you.

Old Saying - “In Africa every lion knows it needs to be faster than the slowest gazelle or it won’t eat that day. Every gazelle knows it needs to be faster than the fastest lion or it dies that day.”

I just did a search through all the volumes of Mixed Bathing and the first 2 volumes of Too Far Behind (premium editions) and I could not find any instances of the em.

Not really sure what is happening where you see it and I do not, but either way I still suggest that if you want it addressed you should send an email to support@j-novel.club.

@pixelpotato welcome to a great site to farm and feed your addiction. Many great titles have already been offered up. Being as you are a potato and have many eyes with which to direct at different things...I'd suggest taking a look at the catch up titles every month to see if they take root for you. If you like what you reap you can get yourself up to current on a title, and then start sowing the seeds in your library so they can sprout whenever you get the urge to reap another tasty harvest.

I missed the last Black Friday sale, but I think I still have around 50 credits. Planning to grab another hundred if we get a Black Friday/Cyber Monday premium sale this year.

I'm one of those readers that prefers to read everything in one go...which is the polar opposite of the weekly chapter release method. I generally try new stuff out when it's on a catch-up, and if I like it then I buy the series up to current and pre-order as new volumes get added. Then when I have the itch to read a particular series I jam the whole thing out (yay for cardio machines) through the current release. And yes that does mean I end up re-reading earlier books, but I also read through those faster (refreshes my memory on the entire story) before I take my time with the ones I haven't read yet. The bigger series like Smartphone (last read through was after volume 19 was released) I may end up waiting until it is fully finished before I read again (as long as the author doesn't pull an unintentional Robert Jordan).

And I'm so glad JNC self publishes electronically - getting real tired of Amazon's Kindle division that is human understaffed and badly managed by some junkyard pre-alpha version of Alexa's AI.

Honestly I wouldn't be paying this site any money at all if they didn't release weekly as they do. To be honest I pirate plenty of light novels, including J-Novel Club ones for series I can't read on the site because they're expired. After I catch up though I start reading weekly and then often buy later volumes, but I don't go back and buy earlier volumes unless the series is truly amazing (Ascendence of a Bookworm for example is one I went and bought the full back catalog). I've never bought a yen press book as their paper editions are utter crap and they over-localize as they're focused on the non-otaku mass market. So I'm really glad J-Novel Club is doing this and I hope other sites start following their example.

    Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to point this out, for ongoing prepubs it is best to point out any errors in the light novel discussion topics.

Pretty mean of you to make a non-member question in a member-only subforum,

So, back to the title, how do I see credit balance as non-member?

    By opening credit redemption page
All credit-related buttons are hidden from non-members because the site is bad.

And while we're on that topic, is there a way to see my credit usage history

Looking at server responses using browser's developer tools or elsewhere will let you see how much you gained and how much you spent.

when and what I use my credit on

what — look at the library.
when — not without doing even more roundabout stuff.

    @Vegangoth

Otherside Picnic is a great little read.

As for other JNC yuri titles, there are only a few I've come across here with yuri overtones or the occasional yuri crush like in "My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!" It's a fun, light read but don't go in expecting Shakespeare or a full on yuri romance.

There is also some pretty heavy subtext in "Seriously Seeking Sister! Ultimate Vampire Princess Just Wants Little Sister; Plenty of Service Will Be Provided!" but that story isn't as well written as the other two I mentioned.

No they will not disappear, credits are tied to your account, and as such they will remain there indefinitely until they are used.

Even if you were to cancel your subscription they will not go away.

@Eternal-Wanderer said in A List of Jnovels Most Popular Titles?:

Even if Bookworm isn't the top selling title I don't think that means it isn't one of the most popular title on the service. Remember the books here have two purposes, one is obvious that is to sell and make money. The other is to get people to subscribe to the site itself and simultaneously to keep it current subscribers engaged. And just looking at Bookworm's current discussion topic I would wager its doing an excellent job of the latter.

Bookworm certainly is the reason I'm here.
