      Stopped my sub after it became clear that having those 'final' tags back wasn't a priority. Really disappointing.

      Just wanted to drop in to say this is already a project that's in the works, there are just a lot of considerations to make regarding integration with internal processes and catalog assignment so we don't have an ETA yet. Suffice to say we're aware of the problem and actively working on a better solution.

      @Geezer-Weasalopes
      This is a common issue for English websites that display Japanese works, which means you don't have to figure out a solution from scratch by yourself.
      Instead you can just shop around for inspiration and pick the solution that aligns best with situation.

      For example MangaUpdates use aliases to solve this particular challenge for names and titles. Per author, or per title there's a list with Associated Names that can contain kanji versions, kana versions, translated versions for different languages and different romaji styles.

      Something like that would be helpful here as well

      @Serah this is possible to do dynamically in CSS if they wanted to do it in the reader at run time:

      @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) { img { filter: invert(100%); } }

      Of course, they'll probably want additional tags to decide which images to do it on because I'm assuming you wouldn't want to invert actual illustrations.

      JNC App version 3.2 on iPadOS 26.1

      The top right menu drop-down to access the forum and settings menu seems to be designed for mouse clicks. The previous version of the app will keep showing the drop down menu after the first tap. In this new version it will hide it automatically once the finger is lifted. It is quite tricky to tap the drop down and then the forum menu item quickly in order to access it.

      @sorvani Honestly I think it really comes down to too many things they want to get done, not enough devs to do it.

      @Blank46 CAT tools are frequently used in games translation to keep terminology straight, especially when the scope of the project requires multiple translators.

      For a solo translation job, a basic excel term sheet does the same thing.

      Machine and AI Translation might be helpful in an office environment if you just need a quick peek ahead at what this email says before the proper translations come around, but are actively damaging to fictional translation.

      There is no grunt work; every line of a novel is someone else's creation and you are being entrusted with the responsibility of rendering that into the best English you can. Working from canned or rough translations makes it far too easy to settle for something that's good enough when a far better translation is out there and could have been found if you'd been working normally.

      Literally every professional translator agrees that editing AI/MTL translations is far more time consuming than just doing it themselves; it's just an excuse for moron executives to pay less money, and the only way to make it worth the lower rate is to phone it in. No one who cares about the final output or has any real understanding off the process would even suggest that they count as 'tools.' They're useless garbage peddled by conmen and propagated by greedy asshats who don't care about art.

      @Elijah203223 I believe the age rating system was put in because of some EU regulation, so they're likely assigning ratings to content based on EU standards, not American ones.

      @Nubz_Unite I did some checking around after finding the same problem.
      If you see a book you where interested in on the readers list on the site and pull it up in the app as long as you are at the right subscription level to access it it will pull up and let you read it, you just have to ignore the expired text that is displayed and mesmerize which books are actually available rather then being able to causally browse for now.

      That's not how it works from a legality standpoint. There are numerous cases showing you cannot unilaterally change material terms in the contract like this.

      Also anything that is "included as free" in a purchase is also part of the consideration as it treated the same as the purchased goods or service.

      But who actually cares for legality anyway when no one in the consumer sector ever sues anyone as its not worth it.

      I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion. Most of the series I've found on here were through the monthly catch-ups, and specifically the discussion that arises as a result of them. It's not unusual for the summary of a series to not catch my interest, but the input from another reader does.

      Even this last month, I read through Miss Nicola the Exorcist, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was going to purchase (that's another discussion). I was subscribed as a premium user when this title was first licensed and wasn't sold on it, but the discussion in the catch-ups thread convinced me to give it another shot.

      This type of interaction is absolutely valuable to foster, and it would be a shame to lose it completely.

      @Ingraman said in This volume has no parts! (yet?):

      @Serah When I look at v4 on the app (iOS on iPad), it shows me part 1 (from “2 days ago”) available… I’m not sure why you’re seeing that.

      Ah, no - I am not seeing that right now. Sorry for causing the confusion!

      It was from a few days ago, when there was no part yet.

      Just think of me as a very enthusiastic fan who checked more than regularly. alt laughing emoji

      So when I checked the site on the app, before it was released, it showed that cute image of Yurika.

      What you said here was why I went back to my post and edited it, adding my second paragraph/last sentence. I just didn’t do it quickly enough. :p It’s something that I’ve seen a few times before.

      @Serah said in Are Axed Novels/Manga Worth Licensing?:

      Also a story unable to do the world building good when not an isekai is more an issue of the writing style than that being or not being an isekai.

      Yes. This is really the point that I'm trying to make. The writing is king. And this goes both ways. A boring isekai is just as much an issue of the writing style. There's nothing inherently wrong with isekai (or harems, or cheat-powered protags, etc.).

      I, too, am tired of boring stories filled with poorly executed tropes - and many of the same ones you listed (e.g. there's nothing wrong with mayonnaise, but let's not pretend that the locals are going to start celebrating an annual Mayonnaise Day festival, or something - it's just eggs and vinegar).

      The last thing I'll say on this is that 90% of whatever gets published is garbage. I would be cautious of overgeneralizations focused on the average case. One example I can think of would be music. As a teenager in the 90s we always complained about the music played on the radio, comparing it unfavorably to the classics of yesteryear (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, etc). But the mistake we made was comparing the very best music from the preceding three decades with the average music from the ~6 years we spent in middle and high school. Objectively, the 90s was a pretty great time to be a teenager, musically (Nirvana, Green Day, Alice In Chains, Rage Against the Machine, etc).
