Acquisitions Speculation - General
-
Kodansha do seem to prefer to pass off light novels to Vertical. Like the Your Lie in April light novel is with Vertical rather than Kodansha Comics, for example.
-
Ah, I missed that there was a 10th volume. Wonder why amazon has it under the name 「ノーゲーム・ノーライフ 」instead of the title followed by the volume number like all the other volumes.
-
@Hakomari It is not 10th volume actually. It is something like vol 6. It is Gaiden volume. (It should be SS)
Original vol 9 was released 25.08.2016 -

Surprised that Kodansha let someone other than their sister company into their walled garden of licensing.
Wasn't a fan of the anime though.
But I wonder what else Kodansha has that I might like.
In a way, I'm that not surprised. Kodansha responded to an LN question on their tumblr stating that they chose "Kodansha Comics" as their western name on purpose, and had no intention of doing LNs. That was a few years ago, but it doesn't seem like their stance has changed any. The parent company might be happy to get some stuff out there, especially something with a currently airing anime.
When they say sister company, my mind immediately went to Vertical, since Kodansha Comics always calls them their sister company, and they have Seraph of the End LN. Well, I'm still kinda surprised that this is the next publisher, but certainly not complaining.
Wow, I somehow forgot all about Vertical and the fact that Kodansha is partial owner... :man_facepalming:
-
Now kodansha is on board, what title do you think will be good for acquisition? perhaps a more lesser known title, or strategy war like Madan? Is there any? My personal wish is for j novel to get kanojo wa flag no oratera....(who's with me...!!!!), oh and outbreak company

This is just a suggestion for whoever is currently our mod, for the kind of site this is speculation threads are inevitable and this thread seems to have at this point become the general speculation thread. Because of this I think it might be best to change this thread's name considering the 4 new acquisitions have already long since been revealed.

@Eternal-Wanderer You are right good sir, I shall do so and sticky as well.
-
@White-Cloud I'm with you pal, these are in my opinion the most wanted from this label that I could find!
-
@White-Cloud In an ideal fantasy world we'd see NisiOisiN's works moving at high speed on J-Novel Club to catch up with Japan, and delayed print releases from Vertical afterwards for collectors. However since we live in the darkest timeline plus Nisio's writing needs care and diligence to translate just right, I'm guessing the best we'll probably be seeing in the near future is Outbreak Company as you suggest. I still have my fingers crossed for a Kara no Kyokai license salvage though.
-
@Catscope Honestly? 2 months schedule for Monogatari series is pretty good. I have nothing against them. Dec - August = 6 books.
-
@sparhawk6 Hey now, there's a lot more to Nisio than just the Monogataris.
-
@Catscope It is, but Vertical is working on Monogatari series now. And other series can be still picked up by someone else . And this year they published Decapitation - Kubikiri Cycle I think. And I think that from marketing point of view, focus only on one author novels is not a good move.
-
@sparhawk6
Vertical also will release Juni Taisen: Zodiac WarAnd Viz Media will release Imperfect Shojo

Yeah, that's why I said "NisiOisiN's works" in my original post, I meant that in a fantasy world J-Novel Club could do other stuff besides Monogatari to spread the load, and Vertical just has to print it later.
And other series can be still picked up by someone else.
This is what I'm skeptical of, NisiOisiN in general seems to be exclusive Vertical territory now since they've rescued Zaregoto and are (edit: not) doing Juuni Taisen.
-
@Rahul-Balaggan Viz media released more, Death Note - Another Note LN for example. But they are not Vertical and I was talking about Vertical. Also, Juni Taisen: Zodiac War is still far, it will be released at october. But honestly, I like most Monogatari Series.
@Catscope as Rahul and I write, there are also Viz Media who publish his novels. So it is not a Vertical exclusive.
-
@sparhawk6 Fair point I hadn't actually heard about Imperfect Girl. When was that announced? All I knew was that Kodansah USA was publishing the manga.
-
@Catscope Not sure about when it was announced, but release date is 24 - 26 October 2017(It is different on amazon and bookdepository). Actually, @Rahul-Balaggan , Imperfect Shojo is also Vertical when I look on it.
-
@sparhawk6 I swear on my entire collection of Manga Light Novels and Hentai that when I looked at the Amazon listing before it was Viz Media.
Now it has been changed to Veetical.
-
@Rahul-Balaggan I believe you! That is pretty serious oath! :D
