Wait, Marius really sliced his brother in half (or maybe in 1/3 and 2/3) and killed him?
That was really unexpected. No forgiving or "stoop so low" argument like in most other series.
I guess given that he killed the father and the eldest brother, he deserved it. But since this wasn't something we directly witnessed, it doesn't feel real.

Well no complaints though. I like when a series doesn't hesitate in killing the bad guys.

Do you mean wife no. 2? It doesn't seem like the dwarf girl is going to be his romantic partner.

I'm enjoying this manga as a companion to the anime. In a way it explains more about the story line than the anime did.

@schuburner I was about to say that many pages on ch 1 and 2 didn't load on Android app. But after switching the image quality to "High" (instead of Auto), the pages finally load. Not sure if this is worth addressing or not.

Also, I noticed that the tracker doesn't work (read chapters aren't highlighted in green). But after reading on the website on Android, the chapters were finally highlighted in green.

@Shaun-C interesting, I checked the Japanese version and he was pretty much being casual from the get go. That was unexpected.

In that case, that's fine then. It's kinda weird that he didn't use the correct grammar despite being genius and very literate in that world. But if the intent is to show casual speech, I guess it's workable.

What I like about this series is how, despite a lot of moments when the characters are cute, there's nobody who's just cute; they're interesting and varied characters, who at times act cute. It doesn't prevent them from being smart, badass or dangerous when needed.

A lot happened in this volume. We meet the elves, who are interesting both as a take on elves as a species and as individuals; see who is at the center of the monster outbreak near Turnera; we see how the story of Charlotte and Byaku progressed after the siege of Bordeaux; there's a delightful little vignette as Ange and friends visit Maria; honestly, the volume is packed. And despite not having a dull moment, it still manages to have great quiet and introspective scenes, too.

The finale of the story didn't disappoint!

What did, though, was the art. Not that it was worse - but there was a lot of scenes of multiple machines fighting and often, the impression was "yes, very nicely done, but what am I even looking at?" Telling friend from foe, and who's doing what to whom, was often hard; and for all that I loved how not-human-like the machines tended to be, it did get in the way of easily reading the action.

With that being said, I still loved the final volume, and the story as a whole.

I bet Yuto feels pretty conflicted knowing there's an easier way than he used to get the skill.

Yuto doesn't feel conflicted much, outside of which of his tamed monsters he'll acquiesce to this time.
He'll be astounded at the wondrous new knowledge gained by his fellows.
It might expand his repertoire of "weird things to attempt"...

To be fair, Mary is a master schemer, but her schemes involve trying to avoid being the center of attention, and end up being one step in front of the enemy by accident or pure luck. My take is that luck is one of her stats that's maxed out just like her strength and defense.

Her luck is doing great at getting to the bottom of what is going on, but abysmally at not drawing attention to herself. So whether her luck is good or bad depends rather on what goal you have in mind. Perhaps it is folks around her who have exceptional luck, and that luck uses her as its tool.

@Torka don't quote me on it, but I think he was 18 when she was 12, and she's 13 now at this point in the story. He's definitely older than her. Having read the LN I can tell you that they do wait until she comes of age before doing anything that exceeds hand holding (not even kissing, other than back of the hand or a peck on the forehead). They're so pure as a couple it's almost painful to read :-) but that's a good thing because of her age.

Also, this is a country where engagements are often decided by your parents when you're still 5 years old or so. He's apparently begged out of all of them until now, and her original parents would have rather sold her as a slave. The Sergeants haven't gotten around to it yet because she's too new to them, and at this point they would probably have tried to hook her up with Glen anyway.
