      It's a lot better than Youjo Senki owing to fact it isn't restricted by something of a real, foredestined template (ヽん)

      @rsog412 exactly the type of thing I was looking for, thankyou, I shall suffer it just to fill in that square, it's only one out of 25 and apparently have some really good ones for other squares, I already enjoyed Skeleton knight for the Knight square, and have Tsukimichi for another square.

      @fjordobordo, thankyou for that list, it's r/fantasy book bingo on reddit, 25 squares which runs from April 2025 to March 2026, so i've still got most of a year to read 24 books and one 'not a book' (there are so many anime to chose from). I have read 6 books already and have locked in most of the rest, got some interesting ones to look forward to - its my own choice to do a Japanese theme for this year's card, its just a personal challenge. I'm way past school age!

      The description is literally what i put in the OP 'Read a book in which a main plot revolves around disrupting a system' they encourage you to find your own definitions and read a variety of speculative fiction. I was thinking something where they are deliberately trying to overthrow the system, i had not considered that they could break it just by having knowledge or being powerful, i'll have to see what they think.

      Solo levelling is Korean, so that is out.

      Maoyo is not translated so that's out

      I've had Tsukimichi mentioned a few times from different places, that may be the one I go with.

      Dorky NPC Mercenary is what i have pencilled in for pirates already.

      Lots of missing info here... What model of Amazon tablet? What OS is it running? You talk about it working on desktop but not the tablet... Are you trying to open the site in Silk, or running the J-Novel Club Android app on it? Does the app start? Can you see lists of parts but they don't open? Or do you not even get lists?

      @jazzyjeoff
      Usually, I would advice against it. Maybe there is nothing to refine. But you passed to the second round and if you think you can enhance the story, then maybe it is not such a bad idea. But I think it would be best to continue your work and make it a priority to finish your novel first.

      Jon Mitchell

      @Perplexed said in Could J-Novel run Kickstarters for series over 5 years old?:

      The advantage with something like a Kickstarter is they can make sure they don't lose money, as long as they budget for the cost of translating with the license cost as part of the goal. Then if it reaches it's goal they will have already covered the cost of doing it (with presumably some profit margin that would also included in the goal) and any books it sells after the Kickstarter will just be profit as because J-Novel club does digital first there will be no additional cost of printing more books (that said they could do a stretch goal for a physical edition but then they could just make that for the kickstarter backers only if they didn't want to print more after).

      yea - as Geezer pointed out it won't work (you need permission/ the license to launch a campaign on kisckatarter or whatever--but it might work in reverse. If an author wanted to have one of their older works translated - they could use kickstarter to raise the funds and HIRE JNC (or some other group) to translate and then subsequently market the end product ...(the author still risks losing face if the funds aren't raised to hire a pro like Warnis )
      Guerilla marketing (assuming the author OWNS the license) he/she could just 'look the other way' if a prominent fan translation site just so happens to post a chapter by chapter translation of a work ...see what interest there is, then go from there (that would be the cover story anyway. In reality, the author and translator would be collaborating. when (IF) enough hype gets generated - the author makes a statement that although they are flattered that so many fans are interested, licensing must go through proper outlets, "please support the kickstarter instead"

      or

      an author could enter a writing contest incognito, pen a work in English (or translated to English) in a setting that is famous from a series that is old (or a side story or something - close enough that the lampshade hanging is obvious) to gauge interest and if it's a 'hit' approach JNC to translate/market something from the back catalog

      @TrinaBear if you have an epub file for the book (which you will if you bought it from J-Novel Club) then Moon+ Reader and ReadEra on Android will both read it to you with the phone's built-in text to speech engine. I'm not sure what's available on other platforms. Stuff from other ebook stores is unlikely to work (not out of the box anyway). Kindle won't allow you to read it out loud with text to speech because they want you to use their Audible service, for example.
