And often quite a while after it's been available elsewhere they don't have it available on their own site. So I've had to reach out to them a couple of times about having things available to purchase on their own site, then they apologize and do it.

I'm a bit frustrated by the pace of the translation. The author has been regularly releasing three volumes a year, yet Yen Press seems to struggle to do just two. It took them 6 months to release Volume 21 and 22 isn't scheduled until October!

No such general purpose thread exists but there are tips on how to assess status and discussions of this issue.

Generally speaking Japanese publishers never publicly announce a series has been cancelled they just stop announcing new volumes. However you can look up a series to see if new volumes have been published or announced in Japan. In some cases fans may have designated a series as on hiatus or dropped but those are typically informed guesses rather than anything official.

For a given series you can search the forum and Twitter to see if people know anything and ask a series specific question if necessary. A good place can often be the volume discussion thread for the last translated volume. For example https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/6005/oversummoned-vol-2-discussion/62?page=4 has discussion for Oversummoned. Sometimes series on JNC are marked as completed.

@Silvermane it is released in Japan, now you just have to wait for licensing contracts to be signed, and the translation team to have time to work on it.

@Silver-Sugar-Duchess A mechanical translation is just that - mechanical; it has no insight into the meaning.

A person who understands the reason behind the words has a better chance at both being "correct" and "understandable".

That said, I have better luck by including context around what is being translated. That's why I just copied in the WHOLE thing, rather than individual phrases. I used to just copy individual parts... and laughed at what come out (when doing French to English, which I'm more familiar with).

None of it would hope to work on a major work, where individual rules get in the way. Several years ago, I tried reading a mechanical translation of volume 18 of The Irregular at Magic High School that was Japanese->Russian->English "for accuracy" (?!?). I'm sure glad we have an official translation now, so that characters don't switch genders between paragraphs...

Tentai has been a bit cursed so far, everything from an office break-in where their equipment was stolen to losing control of their discord server after a malware infection, but they've kept struggling forward despite that.

@luparguru I'm not staff, but: You just need to be very careful about starting topics in the Streaming section. Normally only staff start topics there, and they already do start one discussion topic per volume per title.

So if someone starts a Land Mines volume 10 topic, it is confusing to people because:

If the official topic hasn't been created yet, people think the new volume is about to start, when it might still be weeks or months away. This disappoints people and makes some of them extra salty. If the topic has been created, then it confuses people because there should only be one topic per volume.

If you want to start a topic about a series or a new volume of it, it's usually best to do it in this Light Novel Discussion area not in Streaming.

For this case, you might have created a topic here in LND with a title like "Magician Who Rose 7 delayed by artist illness"

@Paul-Nebeling The new backend deals with this smartly by having "people" a first-class database class with theoretically many different name variations in all languages. When we fully switch over to that we can handle that, but also situations like staff changing their names, etc.

It's a simple date check. If "your most recent download date" is earlier than "the most recent file modification date" then it shows you the [Updated] tag.

@jpwong I really hope "Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers" gets a physical paperback version of the LNs. The anime made me love the series. As much as I am thankful that JNC and other companies exist to provide translations, I am not a fan of ebooks and not having something physical and tangible personally.

It's a fun series, hoping Bash is successful before his time runs out. Maybe with Thunder Sonia, at that.
