I'm currently reading the TODAG.

So there are actually two methods I can use now for Text to Speech purposes on Android.

Select to Speak - This can be found at the bottom of the Accessibility page in your settings.

Pros - Icon based text to speech button on your screen (looks like a little speech bubble, can be dragged around the screen to somewhere least annoying). When opened, it has functionality for reading through the speech aloud, rewinding to a previous paragraph of the text, fast forwarding to the next line, and pausing.

Cons - Shutting off the device and turning it back on will result in the speech stopping. It has to be restarted from the beginning. Again, you can skip through the text with the fast forward button.

Shake to Start Continuous Reading - This can be found in the Talkback settings. Basically you shake the device to start reading a web page when Talkback is turned on.

Pros - If you set this one right, turning off the device will not upset the playback, just pause it. You can turn of the device, turn it back on, then shake again to restart continuous reading.

Cons - You cannot rewind. You cannot fast forward. You are stuck listening from beginning to end. If someone interrupts you during playback, you'll have to pause by turning off the device. Pausing basically means skipping a whole paragraph (it won't continue in the middle).

I'll be using the former this week I think.

Edit: After testing, it seems the first method doesn't always finish reading. It wouldn't go passed the chapter heading "Interlude" in Volume 3 Part 3 of Dendrogram. Obviously if this happens with every long section that has multiple chapter, that's a deal breaker.

I have finished Spice and Wolf Vol 5, plan to finish Faraway Paladin Vol 2 over the weekend. next goal will be Finish Smartphone vol 5, Konosuba Vol 4, by April 8.

@alocervancouver I'd suggest reading Isekai Kenkokuki - Otherworld Nation Founding Chronicles.

It does take a while to get to the bureacratic parts though, since it goes Village > Clan > Country > Nation > Empire. And during the village arc there's not so much bureaucracy as it is "how can we get enough food and things to survive the winter".

Motayasu is very gullible, so I guess we're supposed to forgive him for his actions because he is stupid? I really, really don't want the Shield Hero to work together with these guys. I think the other dudes are even more culpable because they should have better heads on their shoulders.

@the-green-death Oh, lol. I am the same way actually. I was just confused with you saying you prefer Ambiguous Ending. I would rather a series have no ending over one that is rushed.

@rahul-balaggan I dunno - you have more Siskan faith than I. I think rightfully San would prioritize the continued growth of JNC over his translation and I could see him not getting around to it, despite his best efforts.

I just tried it, and you first have to download the Japanese-English dictionary on the app, but then unfortunately it only works for single characters or small groups/phrases. If you try to translate any more it just says no results :/

Alright, the dream is dead. But maybe they'll think about adding that function someday.

I know there was some sort of legal dispute between GravityTales & Qidan and it all just confused me to the point I never start since i couldn't at that point determined what was legit or not. and i only kept hearing bad things about Qidan so I have been putting it off.

That's interesting. I'm glad you decided to not go with that approach. From what I've learned of Japanese business, relationships are important. I feel like you'd ruin whatever industry connections you may have garnered over the years if you tried something like that.

Thanks for the links. From what I've gathered, a fan translation site was starting to turn semi-pro and made a handshake deal with Qidan while in negotiations. During the negotiations Qidan drove a hard bargain, possibly trying to bully the site into submission, but they didn't cave. So, Qidan tried to smear, failed miserably, and took what was translated from the translators and put it up on their site verbatim. Did I get that right?
