The web/app reader only provides access to previews and pre-publication novels. Paying members get all prepub novel parts but once a novel has been published for a week or two it disappears from the prepub system and you have to buy it as an epub etc for continued digital access. Premium subscribers get a monthly free credit for premium epubs and a discount on buying more credits.

There are usually numerous novels free at any one time but they are not all first volumes. The money people pay helps fund some high quality translations and supports the light novel industry so I think it is good value but I understand the frustration of many of the free volumes being for later volumes only. For the site on a desktop / laptop, there's a TTS extension in Chrome (PC version) you can download that's handy for listening to the site content. Actually two, but the other one pops up a window trying to get you to pay for the full version, and the default does not let you change voices. Both have their drawbacks currently (sometimes the former stops reading and you have to click the fast forward button to keep going).

I'd love to find an extension for my mobile phone browsers to read the web page if anyone knows of any. Most of the ones I've seen there require highlighting text or copying text.

@Eirhime I would not recommend a Kindle. There are better e-readers. Buying a Kindle is comitting to one bookstore for all books, and you've already seen some of the problems that can result. Even the Nook can read books from Kobo, JNC, and lots of other places.

Personally, I use an Icarus Illumina. It's awesome.

@hatguy12 Yeah, my first attempt at a solution was to add that in... Whenever you stop with 95% or more to go, it doesn't resume the next time.

I figure that's the more useful behavior for people.

@Kaelas Kobo is definitely updated on my end (I pushed the update the same time as the other sites and just double checked by downloading it from Kobo on their backend), so contact Kobo customer support to get them to push the updated version to you.

Actually I've arranged the numbers where the premium credits or amazon sales both give about the same amount of royalties back to the Japanese publisher per book.
Some of our translators can elect to get a share of those proceeds as part of their pay, too, and in that case the premium credits contribute more to the translator/editor.

Kobo and iBooks actually would be the place that takes the smallest % of the retail price for distribution (amazon charges a fee per MB of the downloaded file).

But it's really about which ecosystem/file format you can most easily read the book in. If you own a kindle and just want your book on your kindle, Amazon is probably the way to go. If you only read on a computer or generic epub reader, them our Premium Ebooks will be the best quality (plus bonus content).

Hello Sam, I saw in Sean's posts that there was going to be an update to volume 1 to change some character names, may I inquire when will that update be sent out? It's just that Kobo needs customers to contact their customer to manually update books to latest versions, it's not automatic like Amazon. So, I'd rather not bother their reps before knowing for sure that there is an update to be made. Thank you very much!
