This tale is done, but their story continues.
Have to wonder how much the folks at the very top of the Sanctum know concerning it, given the hand's off approach advocated concerning the Captain.
While at the time my thought was that it would gain them more knowledge if he were left to his own devices, if the folks at the top knew something of this it could be more 'leave him be and he'll add more to the biological preserve' as well as the benefit of unscheduled visits to various locations uncovering matters needing to be dealt with that otherwise wouldn't have been learned of until they'd gotten far worse.
You can't get more 'unscheduled' than someone focused on their own curiosity.
He's also decent at leaving a place in better shape as a society than he found it.
The only major downside is that he's a bureaucrat's nightmare.
